Converting/Save MPC files (PGM, SEQ, SND, APS) from Zip Disk

Hey. Maybe I didn't phrase the question correct, but essentially, I have several Zip disks, with all the usual file formats (SEQ, PGM, SND, APS, WAV) on my disks, that I would like to get from those zips that I used with my old 2000XL and likely end up using them on a 2500 (soon to buy I hope). The files are on both 100 and 250 MB disks. In the meantime, while I have no MPC, until another one comes in, I want to go ahead and get my files onto something more modern, (i.e. my computer hard drive) so that when I do get the MP, they are ready to go and I can load them onto the new MP via USB or CD (depending on what I have). So, I am just not sure how to do this. Is it as easy as simply dragging and dropping to my harddrive from an Iomega Zip via USB? (I doubt it/I wish) or do I need to do something specific in order to access these files again?

After scouring several old posts here via search and even doing some google search digging, I have read some about file converting programs like MPCpgmmaker or chicken systems translator but I haven't found anything definitive that tells me either of those are what I would need. Preferably I would drag and drop and then drag and drop them from my HD back to MPC at some point soon, but not sure if this can be accomplished. Does anyone have any specific advice on this? And if you have used MPCPgmMaker or Chicken Systems Trans, are those necessary for me in this case? Since I think it will be a one time deal, I would like to avoid having to buy anything unnecessary. Get the Akai version of Translator from Chicken Systems. Create a Virtual Drive on your PC's hard drive and format it for Akai MPC. Hook a USB Zip drive up to your PC and drag the files off your Zip disks into the Virtual Drive. You now have the files safely archived on your PC and you can move them back to whatever media your new MPC uses whenever you are ready.

This is a good way to backup your MPC files so that they are safe in case something ever happens to the storage device or media you are using (such as Zip disk, CF card, etc).

what would you do if you have an scsi connected zip drive?

By the same token, could I just (once I get a 2500 presumably) connect a USB Zip Drive to the back of the new MPC with my old zip disks and load them onto a HD on the MPC or CF on the MPC? I would rather avoid having to take the more arduous route, though your point of having a backup copy of things still would need to be addressed at some point. But in the short term, could I not do this just the same?
