I think the sickest thing I've seen in a classic is his internal SCSI card reader.

no kidding..
I used to like those car models when i was a youngster. I used to break off all the plastic car parts and paint them first and then assemble them. They wound up looking 100 times better that way, especially once you got the hang of painting the body of the car without streaks. I wish I still had those.

I avoid painting things like buttons as much as possible.
There's a lot of chemistry involved in painting plastics, and in order to really get it right, you need to know exactly what type of composite the plastic is, and know exactly what chemicals you need in your paint to guarantee proper adhesion to avoid peeling, chipping, excessive wear, etc.
Also, when spraying multiple coats of paint you need to make sure you either shoot within the alloted time before the paint sets up, or you need to wait for it to completely cure, and then prep the surface properly (Usually fine grit sanding)..... and then again there is the chemistry of the paints..... making sure your coats of color, or clear or whatever are all compatible chemicals.
In high wear areas like buttons, these things are chritical.
It'd be nice to find these buttons cheap. Then they could just be bought in the desired pigment, rather than painting..... I haven't been able to locate them.
Correct terminology for the type of button would be helpful.
I've searched button+stem/s, button+tree/s, and so on and so on and so on, to no avail. I've found similar ones, but not these
