Actually I'd still really like to work something out, I just don't have a lot of time. I also think it may be a very frustrating experience as I am really starting from scratch here. I think that it could be a good idea, but he needs to sharpen his angle. For example, someone said earlier that there was no use re-inventing the wheel... this isn't necessarily true. There seems to have been enough interest on the topic of an MPC-styled OS for the computer...after all, you all did at least try to download and use the software. Basically what i think he'd need to do with it is focus on the workflow of it. We are all mpc users for just that reason. Imagine an mpc os that isnt necessarily encumbered by os size limitations, etc. If I were to advise him on this, I'd suggest picking a particular type of pad interface...ie the mpd's and see if it would be possible to focus the software around midi controller interaction/based navigation. I think maybe he'd be able to pick a fight with NI's Maschine.

when it comes to straight midi, there are other programs that do that...when it comes to workflow, traditional daw's can be stiff, uninspiring, and less interactive.

waaaaay beyond JJ's programming skills. plus he'd need a team of people working with him if we wanted to see the app anytime in the next 5 years or so.
