Thinking about upgrading to a 2000XL.

i have a 2000xl and im about to upgrade to a 1000 with jj os, dont go the other way man listern to what these smart people are saying there might be the whole cool image thing of the older mpcs but seriously the 1000 can do soooo much more you would regret it so much if you went to a 2000xl. i only wish i got a 1000 to begin with

word man. get hte new pads put in that 1k and ask your mom to buy you a rackmount synth or a small keyboard that has ill sounds. like the micro x. dope ass lil board.

well since we are tossin out opinions here. i have the benefit of working on both machines. i personally own the xl and my group mate owns the 1k. we both produce on both machines. and both pretty much share the same opinion. the 1k is a great machine. but he would trade his 1k for my xl anyday. he even considers my xl to be a better machine. now my xl is pretty much maxed but i really dont think that matters. "better" is a matter of opinion. and nobody can make that choice for you. but i can tell you this much. there is nothing that you can do on your 1k that i can not do on my xl.

what about instant time stretching on the pitch 16 levels function?, usb connection?, jj os upgrade? (which adds alot more options alone), the fact that the fx and outputs come built in, there's a few off my head.... stick with the 1000

there is a whole bunch of stuff that the 1k can do that the xl cant. I had a 1k for 2 or so years but now have an xl. Little things i miss off the the top of my head..

getting off 16 levels (XL you have to be in the main screen.)
in sample mode being able to hear your beat play
loading sounds, a few misc things. (takes much longer)
trim mode lags a bit.
sample time, even though its not really a problem
biggest of all though ...

being able to record while beat is playing! ah i hate this. Making beats on the spot or getting down with people you have to stop your machine and than punch in.

Its all up to you though, i work on many different mpcs and gear but at the end of the day i have an xl and i am happy.

not to mention the 1k has group mute

The only upgrade the xl has over the 1k are the pads! The workflow of the xl is so slow! I plan on going back to the 1k.

well the workflow bit is a matter of opinion.... what ever machine you know the best has the fastest workflow.


the 1000 is a newer machine... the software is the only upgrade.

hardware wise, the xl is more of a pro machine besides the lower ram capability.

the 1k's usb is also not an upgrade really... all it does is turn the machine into a card reader while you have it plugged in (it isn't like you can stream 8 tracks over it, unless I am totally wrong)

the xl maxed out can have more outputs, which to some people is a serious benefit, plus the machine is more rugged. That might not make a difference for most people but to some it might.

I would say go with the 2500 for a true upgrade, or even the 4k if you can get a good one for a good price.


both machines are great, I personally find the xl a bit more reliable and solid, but it lacks a lot of great features that newer technology has.
