Unless the button is physically broken, the tact switch underneath is the likely culprit. If you're replacing the switch, consider replacing all the switches at the same time -- it is quite an undertaking removing the old switches, but the improved action with new switches is well worth the trouble.

Deta!L posted the part number for the switches in the FAQ / Bible.

Yes.

While you're at it, you may want to think about replacing all the tact switches. Eventually you'll have to do the same to other buttons.

Unless you have problems with other buttons, don't replace them all. Some buttons get used a lot less than 9, which I use to enter all 999s, all the time. Just do a good double check that the rest of the buttons feel fine. If you pull a 60 up from a swamp (Detail!) and the buttons are all corroded and funky, switch 'em. Its a big job to do them all, one is a piece of cake. Plus, disassembling the MPC to the point that you can repair this board is easy. A solder remover will be a help...
