your recorder has a MIDI out on it - how to sync it to the MPC where the Recorder is the Master…………
on the mpc it’s easy –
goto the midi screen (shift+9) and up at the top left select which midi channel u are going to use - (1or2),
Then turn MODE: to MIDI CLOCK
then Recieve MMC: ON
go back to main screen and press play on the recorder, should press play on your MPC for you
Perfect MULTI tracking.

I'd keep it all in the MPC at first, and do a MIDI clock sync with the G. Run a monitor line from the MPC into the G.
Next, record your vocals and other audio tracks in the G while monitoring the MPC tracks. If you have G tracks left over, sync-record into the G the MPC tracks that you feel would benefit most from the G's processing power - EQ, dynamics, FX.

more data I found on the midi sync between the mpc & aw16G…………..this cat is having a similar question / issue as me……..it only works with the stop & start function but the fwd & rwd function is not working from the G to the mpc…..dunno why
I tried that and it didnt work. Is my mpc supposed to start and rewind ffw etc with the aw because it isnt. My mpc has mtc. mc,and mmc. The midi sync page has sync in 1 or 2, sync out a or b, both of these have a choice of mode-time clock or mtc with which a frame rate needs to be entered.With sync in the midi clock option also has-shift early(ms): Below all this there is receive or send mmc-on/off. The only place I can find a device id. is in the dump mode under transmit. I dont know whether that helps. Any way I would appreciate any more help as Im getting really pissed off at this thing. Have you tried pressing the Akai's start button first, then pressing start on the G? The Akai should go into a wait mode if you have it setup properly to receive MIDI clock. This should get you on your way if your setup is OK.
If not, make sure the MIDI cables are correctly connected. I know it sounds obvious, but more than once I've thought "what the hell???", only to find I had MIDI IN connected to MIDI IN. It may not be as straightforward on the Akai by the sound of it though, with your indication of "sync in 1 or 2, sync out a or b". Without prior knowledge of the MPC2000 or a manual handy, I can't say for sure which corresponds to which, but I'd venture a guess that 1 and/or "a" would be the place to start. How many MIDI ports are there on the MPC? Perhaps if you could describe the MIDI connectors on the Akai we might have a better understanding of where to go.
I'd go with the MIDI clock option first though, as no framerate, device number etc will be necessary. I've successfully synced my Trinity, QY300, DJX, JP8000, Microkorg, RY30, and other stuff exactly as outlined in the post to Mr Alston. If I wasn't clear enough on the G's settings, page 150 of the manual gives you all the information in Yamahese.
Timecode like MTC or midi clock will only tell your mpc the location of the track. My guess is that the mpc can only figure out where in the track the HDrecoder is when playing back, and not while fastforwarding. Maybe it's too slow, or maybe there's no timecode being send at all.
Anyway, if your harddiskrecorder supports it, you can enable MMC (midi machine control). The 2000xl can be set to recieve MMC in the sync screen (shift-9). This should sort out all transport control problems
