problem with 2kxl and pc zip disks

Recently, I have been having problems with transferring zip disks between my mpc2kxl and my pc...
Aren't these units supposed to be compatible?

Here's my process:

I make and save .wav's on my pc. Sometimes I use mpc editor to make a .pgm.

Next, I save my pc work to zip disk. Note, that been saving to a usb zip drive AND I have been saving to a SCSI zip drive - just to see if the problem would go away when using one and not the other.

Next, I will load the .wav or .pgm into the MPC using the ATAPI zip drive or a SCSI zip drive.

The .pgm and .wav's will load up at least once in the MPC, with no problem.

Next, I will probably go sample a record and add stuff to the existing .pgm.

When I go to save to either the ATAPI or SCSI zip drive - the same zip disk will starting making clicking noises and then say "DISK READ ERROR."

What could this be????

dont save from the mpc to your Pc formatted disk. you just stuffed it. make a disk for the mpc, formatted inside it. and a disk for the pc. when u have cxopied the pc into the mpc's memory then ave them to a mpc disk. kapish!

How would you then get the stuff saved on your MPC back to the PC?

Maze, for me, there would be no need to go from the MPC to the PC - but if I was - I would probably just resave a .snd or .wav to another zip disk and hope that the sound makes it into the pc without screwing up the disk...

depends some users claim that there pc's/mac will read mpc formatted zip disks, mine doesnt. dont really care, but i do want to back up them unrealiable disks to some other media.

I started typing the following at the same time nanoloop did his previous post. My Mac happily reads MPC formatted disks, but only the first partition if they have been partitioned.......

If you were doing this with a Mac, you would only use a zip disk that was formatted on the MPC. The Mac can read an MPC formatted disk but the MPC cannot read a Mac formatted one. Isn't this the same situation with a PC?

I personally have yet to format a disk that is compatible with the pc AND the mpc....for some reason it just doesnt work for me.

My MPC wont read PC formatted disks in any format (fat, fat 32, ntfs, you name it) and my PC wont read MPC formatted disks...therefore my scsi at this point is useless, because i cant get my sounds from the pc on the mpc.

And I have tried everything....

I installed a Zip 250 on my 2KXL. I've never had a problem with Zip disks. I format them as "FAT" on the PC under WinXP and load them into my MPC. Capisco?

by a parell port of ebay for dirt cheap. and a scsi one too for the mpc. 100 mb ones are mad cheap.

whats a [parallel] port gonna do to solve this situation???


Also, it seemed like the problem only started when I went to using a 2kxl with winXP. Everything worked fine when I have the 1st edition mpc2k with winNT4.0...

Any clues?

my bad i read it wrong i thought u were havin probs with the usb drive. i was sayin if that one was bad get a parallel one. sorry bout that slick.
