hooking up a keyboard to the MPC

Hi
Ive been told that if you hook up a keyboard to an MPC, the MPC cant record the actual sounds that are on the keyboard, the keyboard can only control the sounds on the MPC.
How can i record what im playing on the keyboard and still use the MPC for everything else? do i have to split the processes and join them together in cool edit or something?

you should go to the newbie forum and the essential info section.

you need to run midi out of the keyboard into the midi in and midi out of the mpc to midi in of the keyboard

a simple way to do it would be to run a audio cable(dunno the specific name) from the keyboard into the audio input of the MPC then go to the Sample screen and sample the sounds your playing on the keyboard into the MPC. in much a similar way as if u were sampling from a vinyl for example. Ive got this video i downloaded of dj nonsense, cant remember the address tho.
In this video he changes the sounds on his keyboard with something (not the MPC) and then hits record on the MPC, plays a tune along with the drums that he programed on the MPC and presses stop. Plays the sequence back and it has recorded what he was playing on the keyboard.
Anyone know how you can do this?

hmm i dunno if i get the gist of what you mean by the last post but this is how i get stuff from the keyboard onto the MPC. I dunno if its the right way cos' im still not advanced but i'll describe it incase it can help u out.
First, i make my drums on the MPC, then i play on the keyboard and work out the melody. I store the melody on the keyboards memory and then go to the Sample option of the MPC and press the Record on the MPC and the Play button on my keyboard together. This means the melody AND sound from my keyboard gets sampled into the MPC and i assign it to a pad as you would a normal sound. If the BPM's of your melody and your drums match up the melody should sit perfectly over your drums. So now you've got a the melody on a pad on the MPC now and u can use it however u wish

yeah ya ll do need to go to the newbie section I am not sure what exactly is there cause I am not a a newbie to the mpc but I am a newbie to this website.But its a waste a time to sample what you played on a keyboard to your mpc ,Thats why there is Midi, with midi you can control any sound thats in the keyboard straight from your mpc and record the midi to the mpc in real time as well as record what ever you play on the keyboard, the mpc is pretty much just recording data that tells the keyboard what to play, when to play it and how to play it .So than when you press play on the mpc (which is the Master) all the sounds from your mpc and your keyboard well play together at the same time.kinda hard to explain but go check the newbie section I am sure there it explains everthing step by step and how to hook it up and everthing.......
