If you layer and filter your drums correctly compression can be avoided most of the time.

the "drum library"series vol.1-9 (only on vinyl) i think paul nice put it out .i chopped almost every loop and ended up with like a hundred somethin kits and they all bang hard.its got some of the usual breaks on it but for the most part i still dont know where most of them came from

dont always think that something is wack. its just probably not gonna work BY ITSELF.
u might layer it with something else and get something reallllyyyy nice out of it.
just remember that everything is better with a little tlc.
and the only specific tip i have for u is THERE IS NO DISCRIMINATION WHEN U HAVE IMAGINATION
save all the drums u come across dog
word, sampling 101. if you don't listen and set things aside, you're only hurting yourself. if you hear something kinda cool, whether it be a sample, a drum sound or fill, but it isn't quite what you are looking for, take the 60 seconds to record it and save it in a samples folder. 9 times out of 10 i'm surprised at what I find later that I completely forgot about.
iono about finding drums on "anything" but you can do a lot with filtering, enveloping and eq.

sample every drum you can find and layer'em. mpc's can layer up to 4 kicks at once, so im pretty sure you can get a dope ass "hip hop" kick out of 4 different kicks, you just gotta know eq and compression
when i first started, my drums sounded like shit, now they sound straight. i just kept practicing homiie

I personally like the drums from A Tribe Called Quest recordings. Also, stuff from Gang Starr (DJ Premier). It's all about the old school for me..
