yeah I was gonna say talk em down too, cause those screens are the hardest to find from what I have seen trying to find one for a friend. and mpcstuff wants like 299 for them and they are usually out of stock. vst dont even have em listed on their site. maybe someone on ebay or something.. but it will be wild if you wound up payin less for the mpc than a replacement screen.

ON THE OTHER HAND.....
its hard to tell from the picture, but if the screen is just very dim and hard to see the text, and the lines on the LCD are still displaying, just not bright enough then its ONLY a bad LCD inverter board, which can be had for only 40 BUCKS!!!
or course either price i mentioned is just for the parts, not installation, unless you can do it yourself.
if your handy with a screwdriver and have a steady set up hands and can be careful, then there is no reason why you couldn't. GOODLUCK
