Upgrading mt Stanton T80 to a 1200 but so many models to choose from, I dont know the differences.

I can spurge out and get the SL-1200MK5-GK or would that be a waste of money when i can just get an mk2. This is just for sampling...

Are there many different functions besides the pitch control being digital and the +16 between the two and is it worth the extra money for just sampling?

*on a side not why is it an advantage to have digital pitch control?

Why are you upgrading? The T90 is equal to the 1200, and in some ways better. If you're going to spend that much and really want an upgrade get a ST/STR8-150. They have a solid track record at this point and are built like tanks.

If you're going to be DJing then getting something like a 1200/1210 would be a good idea, but if it's just for sampling records spend that dollar a nice new needle and a good quality preamp/mixer.

Even if you're DJing, the T80 is perfectly fine. It has the same torque as a 1200.

If you want to buy something to fit in with the other kids though . . .

But yeah, like he said -- invest in a nice cart and focus on properly setting everything up.

Yeah the T80s are pretty good, although personally I'd rather have 1200s. Longer lasting (in theory - T80s haven't been around as long as the 1200s so who knows) and it's much easier to find parts/technicians familiar with the 1200s.

It's all swings and roundabouts though really. :)

Mk5G's are trash...the digital pitch has jitter and it total c*ap
Mk2's are still by far the best and it will piss on the T-80..what ever you do don't buy a good needle for the T-80 cos it will wreck it.
The T-80 is a short arm under hung dj deck that is NOT made for hi-fi play back and there fore you CANT use a elliptical stylus, the only reason a spherical works is cos it's basicaly a ball point with no sharp edges.
The T-80 is cheap plastic with an inferior drive system..a turntable, feet and arm will have a huge effect on sound...if you get a good needle you are sticking a diamon in a pile of turd.
It might be ok as a DJ deck but as anything serious it's a joke, just OEM rubbish for todays kids.
If you stick a modern arm, upgrade the feet and use a good mat on the SL-1200 it sounds up there with a $1500 hi-fi turntable...if you go further and rid of the shi* internal PSU things get even tastier

Had a T90 (USB)...That thing was garbage. Took it back and upgraded to a tech 12 mk2. Much better. The only stanton deck I'd cop is the str8 150/st150. Those are as good if not better than a tech.

Yeah I agree the ST/STR150 is a nice deck who ever makes them...That's one thing Stanton got right
this is essentialy the same thing but cheaper

I use Vestax PDX 2000's for Djing (the orginal Japanese one's are super solid compared to the new Chinese made one's). Awesome torque.
Cool part about these for sampling is the Ultra pitch which goes +/- 50%. It's amazing what you want to sample slowed way down or up, that you wouldn't think of sampling at normal pitch. Of course an MPC can slow it as well. But there's been records that I wouldn't have sampled hearing it at normal pitch. But when slowed sound totally different.
