MIDI snapshot on JJ OS XL?

Hi everyone,

I am currently trying to squeeze all the juices out of the MPC 2500 + Virus Ti combo. So far everything is simple and productive and I managed to construct a fast workflow but I have one problem I cannot solve. I am recording many Midi CC's from Virus and with long sequences - when they start over - I get the wrong CC's at the beginning of the Seqences. So I would like to reset the CC's at the beginning of the seq. How would I do that? I thought that I should fo that with step edit - but what should I put there in order to take a MIDI snapshot of current Virus controls settings?

Ok people- figured it out by myself - its dead easy. I dont If You know it but its very usefull while working with synth CC's. Well - in order to dump the initial parameter settings from Virus I needed to perform a CC dump from it.
So - I went to step edit in MPC. Set the marker to the beginning of the sequence. The press the Overdub Records button so it lights up. Then I just perfomed a CC's dump on Virus. the MPC loads all the settings at the desired position and returns to these settings every time the seq begins. So You can tweak all the controlls on the synth and when the seq finishes and You want to play it from beginning all Your parameters are neatle reset to the start position. the only drawback is that Virus sends so much MIDI data that the MPC chokes for half of the beat but after this it runs smooth.

Hopes someone can use this trick

Can't you just send a program change to reset the patch?

Uuuu- that's a great idea! How come I did not thought about it???
Anyway - my method still might be usefull for some crazy parameters riding. But for the purpose of reseting the patch the program change is definitely cleaner and more effective idea. Thanks a lot!

another possible little trick is to use this method to store a bunch of synth 'presets' in your MPC sequence.

create a new MIDI track for each synth preset on the MPC and name the tracks, like "lead synth" or "noisy" or whatever.
dump the CC values from the synth & record them into your sequence, maybe every bar or so.
put each synth preset on it's own track & then mute all these tracks on the MPC when you're done.

now, as your sequence plays back, whenever you want to jump to a certain preset, just temporarily unmute it's track on the MPC, and when your sequence hits that spot where the CC values are recorded, it'll send all those values to your synth. then you can mute that track again right away so your MPC doesn't keep choking on all that MIDI data it's trying to send.

only problem is if you use SIMULT SEQ. the track mutes aren't respected in the SIMULTED sequence (i doubt JJ can/will change this), so you can only use 1 sequence at a time or it'll be total chaos.

it's probably better to handle all of this preset stuff entirely in your synth if possible, but if you have a synth that doesn't store presets or patch variations at all, this can be a handy way to get around that limitation.
