Hey I just got my MPC1000 and am still trying to get my head around it. I'm having a problem recording a second sequence after i have recorded my drums. When I tap a pad when the second sequence is on recording on overdub, any drum note that's playing at the exact time I tap the pad gets cut off or muffled out. could someone please help me.

Ur program is swithced to mono. That means that every sound in the same program cuts off the other sequenced sounds that are part of the same program.

Go to program, hit 'params', and u'll probably see the word 'mono' in the upper right corner. Highlight that field and change it to poly. Try to read more about this functions and mutegroups in ur manual. Once u understand it u'll be able to do some nice tricks with it.

It can be different kind of things.

First check if the sample is loud enough. If not, normalize it (one of the edit features in trim mode)
Check the pad's volume in program mode.
Check the volume in mixer mode.
Check the pad sensitivity in other mode

Another possibility is that ur pads are dying. Do u know if u have the old style pads or the pad upgrade?
