O yea and I forgot you mentioned about the Four tracks... If this guys gettin an MPC down the road anyways I'm sure he'd be sequencing thru it... SO the tracks issue isn't even an issue at that point...

man u got it all twisted. if u got talent u can make hotness outta anything. The 303 is a nice groovebox lil sampler, but the asr-x is a full scale sampler. Its not even in the same class. The power editing and sampling that the asr has over the 303 is crazy. the 303 is a hot box. but if i had a choice of pickin a seqencer and sampler combo, i would get the asr. the 4 tracks means that that thing can only do 4 tracks on it at once. Now thats cool if ur gonna use the 2ks sample, and it has good effects and all that but to compare it to a real sampler? madlibs techniques and skills are what makes him hot. Not the 303 or a sp1200. He just knows how to produce good music, give him fruity loops or a mpc 2k and u will get a madlib beat. Its all about ur mind and ideas on production then the tool u use. Some shit offers u mad options but they all esentily do the same thing. Im sick of cats being like OOOO madlib rocks a 303, or OOOOOOO Kanye with the asr-10. just learn ur forumla and u can make beats on whatever.

Well if u had gotten ur head out of your a$$ for one minute and actually read my post you'd see that I specifically said that I never said that because Madlib uses it that it's good... I just said that it will give you that grungy drum sound.... Plus I happen to know from using it that it gives your a gritty sound despite the Bit Rate difference... You said it yourself...

if u got talent u can make hotness outta anything.

It works both ways...

And the 4 Track thing as I said in my other post is not an issue if he has an MPC... I'm not sayin that the ASR-X is a bad choice I'm just sayin that I'd get the 303 first cause it is really sweet...

If I were gonna get an ASR I'd get the ASR-10... If this gusy talkin about gettin a drum machine and not a sampling keyboard I vote for the 303...

NO you see people argue wit me because their homosexuality prevents them from realizing that people have opinions....

Now follow me... People are allowed to have opinions...

Still with me...

So my opinion is that I'd get the 303... Yours is that you'd get the ASR-X... You backed your opinion up... I defended mine... SO despite the fact that you think I have madlib's nuts on my chin (Very mature by the way) Realize that where ever you go there will be a difference of opinions... You have to learn to live with that...

Food for Thought Chump

the 303 is a really dope piece, the ASR X has dope effects and as a module it is cool. The ASR X is more powerful but the 303 may be more useful since it is simpler, who cares?

and stop the homo stuff guys, it is really pre school and it just sounds like you guys are flirting.

;)

By DEADLY MiND Wed Aug 04, 2004 4:41 am
Damn everybody. Yall fight over some stupid shit. I know, its entertainin, but i think its gettin kinda old.

You got your opinion. He got his opinion. It dont matter. You guys dont gotta fight over it.

Anyway.

I think the 303 would be a better choice. I aint dissin the 303, but it would be a little bit more of a toy. I would choose the 303 over the ASR-X (ive used them both before). The 303 is a little more fun, mostly cuz you can bring it anywhere. But the ASR-X has a nice sampler, but not so nice sequencer.

ASRX= Wack sequencer (IMO)
SP303= OK sequencer. But only 4 tracks.

ASRX= Big motha ****.
SP303= Bring it wherever.

Your choice. But if your gettin an MPC, both of these will be useful, but the ASRX will be about the same thing as the MPC. Just the MPC will be better. Like its already been said, you can use 3 sampling sequencers. Thats alright, but id rather have my MPC for home, and 303 for the road.

Just my opinion.

That was sorta the point of my post (even if I did get a little heated)... I just think we have different opinions... It should be left at that.... But Binger just can't drop the fact that I'd rather use the 303... The true answer to this question is that neither is really better... Cause while I prefer the 303 someone else might prefer the ASR-X... And for different reasons each drum machine has certain things people like it for... I know people that hate the feel of the MPC (God forbid)... It's all a matter of preference...

please, you started with the "get your head outta your ass s***" cause i disagreed with you. By specs alone the ASR-X kicks the shit outta the 303. thats the point i was tryin to make. dude asked for what was the better machine. I told em. So dont think ur gonna get all rude with me and imma not argue with you. You did that in that note repeat thread. And I seem to you and elmac goin at it, sayin stuff bout "trannies and vasoline". i never insulted you i just said im sick of all this madlib hype bout the 303, u got all kinds of heated. thats why this forum is so lame, herbs wit attitudes come on here and cant have a discussion bout ish before it blows up into 7th grade. But u start callin me names there chief and imma roll wit it. and yes people have there opinions so dont get on my case. You seem to freak out when people thought u were too lazy to pick up the manual and find a basic function. That was an opinion too.

i said the whole head outte yer a$$ thing because you said:

Im sick of cats being like OOOO madlib rocks a 303, or OOOOOOO Kanye with the asr-10. just learn ur forumla and u can make beats on whatever.

To me it came off like you were sayin that I said the 303 was hot because Madlib uses it... WHich is simply not the case... I said that he uses it as an example of how you can still get a grungy sound without 12 Bits... I've used it and it does create a really grimey sound... Whether it's the Sample Rate or somethin else I dunno...

And I'm far from a f*ckin herb.. Your why this forum is lame... I notice in that last post you still won't let me have an opinion.. Still talkin about how the ASR-X kicks the sh*t outta the 303...

That's not the case... Not in my opinion (which you still contest is like wrong or something)... I like the 303 for Portability and it's FX and just the feel of it...

Dead;y Mind even said it... If he's gettin an MPC the ASR-X is kinda redundant... The 303 is different and I think would add a more diverse style to this guys production... Simple as that...
User avatar

By binger0 Wed Aug 04, 2004 7:42 am
its not redundent. is a s950 or a s5000 redunt? or how bout the cats that use a asr-10 and a mpc2000xl. i never said it was bad but it would be like comparing an mpc 60 to one. Just 2 diff machines. Yeah for poratbility thats nice, but for around the name price u can get a used korg electribe es-1 which is in my opinion better than a 303 too. Im sick of arguining with some kid cause i said that a asr-x is better then a 303. this is so gay. but all in all i would rather has an asr10s sampler then a 303 any day. The 303 would be cool to play with and do some stuff with but all the hype it gets is crazy. but im done with this argument. this is just gay now. Im not gonna argue with yuo about a sampler. i got beats to make.

. .

By roxstar Wed Aug 04, 2004 8:49 am
try a completely different sampler to create a more unique sound. Korg has a nice sampler with a gang of effects, and so does yamaha. If you really want an ASR-X, I'll let you get mine for $250+ shipping.

. ..roxstar. ..

thats to redundant, why have 3 samplers?? dont litsen to this dude

Would you tell Prince not to have 3 Guitars?

thats in a whole other league

By Blaknif Wed Aug 04, 2004 6:13 pm
Really it's not, each guitar has a different chacter & tone, same with samplers. I don't care the sampler on my MPC, however; there are some things that will call for it & I use it. Hell I still use a Gemini DS-8 if the music call for it.

By elmacaco Wed Aug 04, 2004 7:16 pm
Having too many sequencer/samplers can be a hindrance in that much of the UI will go to sequencing. With Rack samplers the UI is strictly for sampling.

The ASR X is complex, I got complex covered, If I just want a piece to use quickly and effectively, I'd grab a 303. Not much hiding behind the 3 digit LED display, easy to get into, a button for almost every function, it won't take long for someone to get what they want out of it.

The ASR X is a complex machine with a two line LCD and two knobs, it would probably take me six months to really integrate it into my setup because most of the time it would interrupt my creative flow to try and get around on it. if it was my main or my only piece, sure, but as an addition to the set up, a rack or the 303 would be better suited.

As for the ES-1, no way, I would much rather have the 303, you can do some seriously wicked shit with it (trust me I have) the ES 1 is good, but it is bigger, has the big step sequencer on it, and isn't as immediate as the 303.

It's all about what you are after, if I had to pick my only one piece of music equipment out of these three, it would be the ASR X, but that is simply not the case here.
