no man.. the actual cdm25 IS a Teac drive. and I have tried panasonics and gotten them to work flawlessly.

To be honest. I think the less moving parts you have the better.
just load your samples from the harddrive. plenty of space there.

you dont need it. Use the CF card and your good... I used a 4gb sandisk extreme in mines...

word.. My 2500 had it in there already. I dont use it alot, but it does come in handy since I have alot of old sample cd's and whatnot. Plus sometimes friends bring over cd's and dvd's w/ sounds on em and instead of popin it in the pc to copy and then drop to CF I just pop the disc in the drive and go. Lastly If u wanna drop a beat to a cd for someone w/o having to record the track into the pc on some rough version sh!t, it comes in handy there to.
If u dont care about ANY of that.. then u dont need it. simple.
EDIT(p.s the one I have to sell is not the one from my 2500, that I am keeping!)

Bought a (TEAC DW-224E) for a MPC 5000 and it will not show up in power up.
It's getting power because the door opens and it spins up when a CD is inserted.
MPC 2500 or 5000 wont recognize this CD drive. They probably want it that way.
