New OS Trouble.

I am having a bit of trouble. I just upgraded to OS 1.60. Now some of the kits I have created cause my mpc to hang when loading.

Is anyone else having same problem?

From the 1.60 relaease notes:

"Important note: Multi program, which is created or saved by V1.51s or higher, cannot be loaded in previous versions. (Because of FX parameters changes)"

Hi Lord Toranaga,

Before I answer, I need to know which operating system you used prior to 1.60? A beta version 1.51t - 1.52c ? or the official v1.51? Please let me know.

Prior to upgrade I was using 1.51 official. I also briefly tried 1.52c then the 1.60 was released next day.


Right now I have reverted to 1.51 official and all is well.


The problem is like, only so many samples can be loaded untile it gets stuck on one wave file.
I typically load up 1000 drum kits at the start of each session. The mpc4000 makes it about one third of the way through this then just hangs. No abort key action or anything.

Of course I am not 100% sure...

...but I am afraid that you have a memory defect. If you have 512 MB memory installed it is probably is the second, most right DIMM. The reason why I think this, is that I had similar problems after switching from 1.51 to 1.51t. In my case the samples were loaded into the memory but could not be played or auditioned correctly.

The problem is not directly related to OS 1.60. The OS indirectly reveils a problem that was already there, but you never noticed before. Let me try to explain:
With the coming of OS 1.51t, and it's added audition from HD function, AKAI changed the way the MPC uses it's memory. For technical reasons the MPC now loads top down. It used to load bottom up. The memory was probably already defected but you didn't notice it earlier because you never used all of the sample memory before. Now the MPC fills the defected part first and you notice it right away.

I had the same thing here... You can ferify it by loading it's memory to the max to find out if the problem does occurs in OS 1.51 only a bit later in time. If so this is probably the case.

I had to ïnstall new memory boards. Check if they have warranty. In my case they were both replaced for free because of the lifitime guarantee on the DIMMS.

I am having a bit of trouble too. I upgraded to OS 1.60 2 days back - haven't used the betas. lots of nice things in 1.60 but got a problem with auditioning from hd.

auditioning worx fine most of the times - but if i m auditioning large samples my 4k just hangs. - not when loading samples just by auditioning! ie. if i audition 1-2-3 sec samples no problem at all - its fantastic! but i tried with some 10 sec. samples, 24 bit, 96kHz samples and my 4k hangs everytime! ... 4k starts to playback the sample, stutters after 1-2 secs auditioning and is gone than!

its been one of the first things i noticed. i just been testing the auditioning feature, memory used to be empty and all short samples auditioned perfectly, on long samples it always hanged!

imo it would be no problem if the 4k wouldn't let you audition large samples - but hanging sukks coz the 4k has to be switched off! ... no exit key - nada - its just dead! ... imagine if it happens in the middle of a seession ...

is anyone else having this problem? might it be related to my rams aswell? seems a bit strange to me - my 4k always hanged whilst memory (512) used to be empty ....

The MPC hanging during audition could be caused by slow RPM HDD. 7200 RPM HDD is recommended.

what about other 4k users? problem is descibed above - on 1.60 are you experiencing crashes on auditioning large samples aswell? ... or are even large samples auditioning fine there?

I load my itunes folder into the 4k and audition wholes songs no problem.

However if I`m using pre 1.51 multis and programs I have to use change my tracks to internal sampler to play the track INT A using midi 1A. I really, really like the audition feature loading up all my samples into this 80GB drive. It`s going to be a program making and saving week but I got to organize my root files from my processed files.

its all good here. problem is solved for now. i use 1.60 but just for 2 days so i didn't know ...

when auditioning i had a problem with a quit large sample (5 mb) - the problem is not as i initially thought my 4k or os 1.60 or the size of the sample - but was that the sample was looped and the loop was very short. it used to be one of the first samples with which i been tryin auditionin and everytime i auditioned it my 4k crashed. i saved it now as one shot and all is fine.

not sure but imo the 4k plays samples from hd as they have been set in sample mode and saved on hd (one shot, loop, no loop) auditioned even a 76 mb one shot, and some looped ones and the 4k plays em all back fine! damn its great like this ...

... so just this bloody sample described above with the very short loop used to crash - anyone else experienced this?
