Trim/Zone Problem, please help

I'll spend a half hour or so chopping up a sample in Trim/Zone, changing the start and end times for each zone (sometimes as little as 6 and sometimes up to 16), then I'll hit EDIT to assign the zones to the pads. The problem is that after spending a SHITLOAD of time chopping up the sample, the zones assigned to the pads aren't the ones that I spent time editing (same number of zones, just without adjusted START and END times).

I've tried doing this with and without the option of creating a NEW PROGRAM, but it doesn't seem to matter.


Am I missing something, or is 2Kxl screwed?

what option do you use when you hit EDIT? when you're in ZONE mode once you press EDIT (F5) it will automatically take you to SLICE SOUND. this will chop up your sample into 16 samples, but its not YOUR chops. also you have the option of making a new program. they will all go on bank A of that new program.
when i use zone i find the two points (start and end) in the sample and then hit EDIT, scroll left to SECTION>NEW SOUND... that part from zone is now a brand new sound even though its still on the previous long sample you took it from. then you have assign that new sound to a pad manually. i think ZONE is intended for cutting up drum loops. isolating a snare, kick, etc... but ive used it for alot of other things...hope this helps

Hi, i'm a new 2000xl user (loving it), and thought I understood the Zone/Slice feature until i read this thread. I'm sure this has been covered before so sorry to rehash this, but can someone else confirm that SLICING doesn't actually slice per your adjusted zones?

The manual (p.108) says: "After you have divided a sound into zones, you can use this mode to make each individual zone into a new sample."

But you also have to allow for the margin setting. I had thought that the slices don't match up exactly due to the margin setting (see viewtopic.php?f=1&t=65068&hilit=zone+slice+adjusted), but that otherwise the zones will be sliced according to how you adjusted them.

Thanks for the comments, I'm still a little hazy on the subject, but the suggestion of creating NEW SOUND's from the ZONE mode is a good idea.

I think after spending some more time with my 2KXL the problem is the "END Margin" option when you've hit EDIT after SLICING, my original problem from the start was that the END's of the individual ZONE's were disregarded because the END Margin was so high. I still don't really fully understand END Margin, I know that it's supposed to help fill gaps between samples.

The other solution that I use is going to PROGRAM mode, pressing the pad that has the individual ZONE sample and then going to PARAMETER and using the jog wheel to select NOTE OFF, because this let's the sample play once you hit the pad only as long as you hold down that pad (which is what I'm used to with other drum machines and my ZOOM Sampletrak).
