what if the reason they can't fix auto chop and make it work right ... what if the real reason is because they keep trying and they just can't?

what if the guys working on it are just not good enough to figure it out?

because why else would they not fix it?

the mv auto chop works fine, along with software,
this must be the only possible reason i can think of.

A bug is a bug is a bug is a bug. They are (or were) working on it for sure, but I don't know if a new OS will see the light of day at all.

i understand 'THAT' akai may never update the OS,

what i don't understand, (and i assume these decision makers have more business education than me, because i have none)
is 'WHY' they would never release another OS update. not a 3.0, but more like a 2.1.

i honestly cannot understand at all 'WHY'

it grows the prestige of your company, makes your customers more loyal, and possibly sells a few more units, turns casio and timex into rolex and movado, just by doing better business.

The why is the big mystery. Right now the only modern MPC I'd consider buying is the 2500 or 1000 because there is hope that if you hit a problem you could communicate with JJ and get a fix. The 500/5000 are frozen for some reason, and no one seems to know why.

The simplest explanation is, the cost outweighs the benefit. If there were enough buyers like you, then it would hurt their business if they didn't fix things and add requested features. But there's a balance, and once that is reached, it would actually hurt their business more to fix things and add features because it would cost more than they gain by doing so.

JJ had to keep coming up with new stuff because that's all he had to offer, but Akai sells hardware and the only purpose of the firmware from their perspective is to work enough to drive the maximum amount of sales possible with the least expense possible. If 80% of buyers don't notice a bug, or don't request a feature, why bother spending money on it?

A lot of MPC users don't even know when they've hit a bug. They aren't software developers, they just try and figure out how to make the machine make sounds. When the machine does something wrong, they either don't notice, blame the weather, or blame themselves. It takes a certain level of tech-awareness to be able to spot these kinds of things.

To change things, you'd need to educate a lot of MPC buyers about all the flaws, and spread the word for people to stop buying until they update firmware more often. Then if you could shift that balance, it'd cost more to do nothing than develop better code. Maybe then they could hire better programmers or spend more time or whatever their problem is.

that was so deep, i know that it must absolutely be spot on, ... but at the same time, that was so totally over my head.

good job either way.
i believe that whatever you said, makes the most sense possible. ; )

This machine in the Uk has been heavily discounted recently from 1650 Uk pounds down to 1200 in the right places (Bout $800 Reduction), leaving a ridiculous margin between the 2500 model… (MADNESS), yet the MV880 commands the best part of $3500 here in the UK..

Based on this it’s got to be a do or die situation in terms of sorting out THE BEAT ANALYSIS AND MIDI VOLUME ISSUES In the next (long) overdue OPERATING SYSTEM update.

Perhaps they are working on a a keyboard version of the 5000 ( Like 1000Kb back in 92!)

Love the sequencer….Love the Q Links when they behave.

There was a bit of a subliminal message about the 5k keyboard hint …sorry!

I used to collect a UK magazine called music technology which was a rival to sound on sound back in their day. It taught me loads of things, especially the artist interviews, as it listed their gear and the dialog was based upon on this+creativity, obviously.

Anyway to cut a long story short I kept loads of the interviews on pioneering artists, which I have listed on ebay……but it’s a bit too specialist (maybe), also are loads of wire interviews.

Some great early graphic design (Printing was expensive then)/old gear lists from shops/flyers/Obscure Album Lists etc amongst theses pages.

Over 200 pages in total………..sorry for the slight post hijack…but it anit about the money. ( I scanned them all in, it took ages .but I wouldn’t dream of redistributing the Folder)
