MIDI off broken

I cant turn off MIDI triggering of the internal sounds.
*I plugg in a synt sendining on channel 1 to the midi in on my MPC1000
*Load a program.
*turn midi off in that track
So at this stage I should not be able to play the MPC program and the synth separately
But the synth triggers the midi notes on the MPC.
It dose not help if I switch the tracks MIDI channel to 5 (channel 1 still trigering it). The only thing that gets rid of it is if i set the receive channel from all to anything other then 1. But that sucks as im trying to control 3 syncs from it.
Im using JJos2 but tried 1.4 with the same problem m persisting.
Is my MPC broken?

if you just want to record audio... why even use a midi cable in this situation?

Its always hard to formulate technical problems so that you maximize the amount whom understand the problem, and can potentially help you. But were dose it say i want to record sound?

My problem is : If i have a program loaded and my synth connected via MIDI. My synth will ALWAYS trigger the program. I can not switch it off. So I can no longer create a drum track, then a midi track and record MIDI from my synt for playback. Every time I hit a note on the synth a drum samples (ore whatever is in the program) plays. Even if i have the midi setting on the drum track on off.
I rely just wanted to se if anybody had a similar problem and solved it before i by a new MPC.

and i sure as hell hope you aren't trying to record more than 1 midi channel on the same track.

if you want to record separate midi channels, you need to layer them on separate tracks... i think that should go without saying,

It sorted. I think it was a sysex midi send from the synth that confused the MPC. One day I get it all set up and working with program changes, and parameter recordign, then I move hose and have to do it again.
