MPC 2000XL discontinued

yea, but u notice they also didnt deny them being recalled either, what im willing to bet is, they didnt "really" recall them, but they put all production of them on hold for some reason. they have been on backorder way too long for the problem to be high demand.
u should try and find out how long they have had those mpc2k's in stock.

so what ever happened to the idea that the only thing akai changed in the 2kxl's was the colour? i mean, if the cooour is all they changed then maybe there wasn't a production fault in the bluw models. also, i've never heard of anyone with a blue model having problems, at least nothing you wouldn't get on a regular xl.

Someone mentioned it earlier but,maybe it's because they want to push the 1k and 4k.I'm not sure exactly why they would want to do that but you know there's no business like BIG business........Peace.

As far as I know, they are releasing a 2kXL with a CF Card reader in the next few months..What that means for existing users is to be determined...

i wouldnt worry aboutit too much, if there does turn out to be something wrong with it, u can always send it back to the manufacturer, of course u'll have to wait

I was just tolled from AustralisMusic that thy've had their stock for about 4 months and they also said AKAI never recalled the units... anywhere.

yo i got my mpc like 6 months ago. i have yet to get my 8 outs , are they discontinued too?

I doubt there is a recall, since I would have likely heard about it.

Backorder is another story.

It is not uncommon in this industry to have occasional problems getting parts for manufacturing, especially since most manufacturers in the music industry do not make many of the components themselves. There are only a handful of parts in an MPC that are custom manufactured for Akai (namely the casing and a couple of IC circuits) and the rest of the thousand+ parts are bought off the shelf from other manufacturers. Many good selling products over the years have had to be dropped for this reason and a number of new products have been delayed intheir release for the same.

I definitely feel what you are saying about shooting for diversity Trupro. I always try to vary my production style. Not just from other producers but from other tracks of mine. I just feel that just because some people on the forums admire certain producers, as I do, it doesn't mean they are "riding" anyone's knob or even emulating their style, just showing appreciation for their music, as I am sure some people probably do your releases.

Can anyone direct me to where I can get Parts for an MPC2000xl?
I just copped a 2nd one from a pawn shop for 3 bones. Its Dirty, Knobs missing, Slider works but knob is missing, and it looks like it has been to Hell and back. Pads look abused too. Its loaded though and works like a dream. I checked it out and all the stuff works. I paint bikes as a Hobby and would like to restore this thing maybe with a Phat paint job. I dont do silk screen though for the letters. guess those will be put back on later.
Any Ideas?

There was a long thread in here a few months back about painting your mpc, try using the search. Should be quite easy to find.

Akai and Guitar center may not be the best-run businesses in the country, but they are not purposely trying to cheat their customers.
While I personally wouldn't put it past AKAI to sell malfunctioning gear,
I know that sweetwater has them, and they simply do not screw their customers, point blank. I bought a brand new BLUE 2000XL a couple of months ago, and it works fine. I truly believe all these rumors are just that,
rumors. I think it's very believable that akai would like to taper off the standalone units to push the MPC4000 and the 1000, while phazing out the mpc2000 series. Parts? You can get those anywhere, man. Brand new 8outs from alot of different ebay dealers going for very good prices. Or, buy them from Sweetwater.com, Zzounds.com, Musicians Friend, or Guitar Center.

Off topic: I hereby officially declare my thumbs down to all things Sam Ash. Their prices are usually the highest, they treat people who make hiphop like they were lesser humans, and they have continued to hire staff with little or no knowlege of what they are selling, while always pushing one "product of the week" or another. They are the worst. Go to Sam Ash, play with the toys, and really truly act tlike you are going to buy something. Then once you make a decision, go buy it at Sweetwater.com
