Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000

Bmorerepa: sometime last week. My biggest question was whether or not they were going to release an "after-market" upgrade kit for existing users. They couldn't really discern this as it was too early to tell: I just hope there's upgradeability - I'll probably try them again this week. Try hitting them up on the phone lines. It would probably be a better idea to wait a few months as they will certainly be releasing the upgraded 2000XL.

"USB would be tight"

My MPC2000XL has USB like the MPC1000. I use a USB-SCSI Adapter connected directly to the back of the MPC with a CF reader in the Bay. I just connect to PC and read/write as needed to CF card. I will likely do a mod in which I cut an opening into the casing for a USB connection since I like to use the MPC's SCSI for other things.

taken from the 'mpc2000xl discontinued' thread..

"As far as I know, they are releasing a 2kXL with a CF Card reader in the next few months..What that means for existing users is to be determined..."

mpc3000: got any pics? Also, the USB - SCSI adapter looks a little on the pricey side... How difficult/much was everything to do?

A hot cakes did you talk to AKAI lately I emailed them again and they sent me this,

This has been proposed in the past, but there has been no definite date set yet for release of any kind of "flash card reader" in the MPC2000XL.

I got some questions for ya MPC3000:
What brand of USB-SCSI adapter and CF card reader did you use?
Is the USB port a 1.1 or 2?
How did you wire in the power for the CF reader? Tapped in from the transformer?

If you got some pictures, I would be very intereseted in doing this mod also. I'm awaiting a microswitch to place in line with the screen on my 2KXL. In theory, when the screen is level the back light will be turned off. When the screen is in the upright position, the light is turned on. We'll see....

whack. I spoke to them a week or two ago - seems their departments aren't in tune with one another. I'm sure there's quite a bit of madness going on with the distribution change as well...I had to speak to 3 or 4 ppl before getting an answer

AKAI hit me back and this is what they said

Brandon,

Before you actually purchase a unit with the Zip drive, you should contact the new distributor and find out when they plan to start shipping the unit with the Flash Card reader.
The new distribute for the AKAI products will be AKAI Professional America and you can contact them at: 401 658 4032

a CF reader would be sweet but i'm hoping USB functioality too and perhaps with the extra CF space an OS update LOL!! but that's a dream i guess.. in any event, if there is a new expansion option for exsisting users and all this is actually true.. then kudos to AKAI for giving us some kind of support.
