Just bought my MPC 60 for $360

The thing is in good condition...all the pads still feel good and all the buttons are there...the lcd screen is kinda not that bright (is there a way to fix this and I already tried contrasting it). this one is all stock..nothing is upgraded yet and I heard I'd have to spend another $500 to get it upgraded (os, etc.) . I've never used an MPC before because I've been using Reason but I've read up on the 60 and a lot of people seem to praise it....so after reading some reviews , i went and got it for $360 (was that a good deal)? Anywho, I'm just excited and I just wanted to share with my fellow 60 owners! Be assure that I'll be on here often trying to learn the ins and outs of this beast! Take it easy all!

Great find!!! I thought about getting this beast first. Like you i found that yes..it would be around $500 or more to upgrade. I found a MPC3000 for a good price so went with that. Good luck once the 60 is upgrade you'll have yourself a power music tool in your hands.

Sounds like you need a new backlight foil. Do a quick search on the forums and you will find more than enough info on replacing it. Depending on where you buy, it can be anywhere from $30 - $60 -- or cheaper if you make your own.

Lord Toranaga is right -- you don't need to upgrade right away -- get used to the sound and feel of the 60 and then you will be able to make a better decision if it's worth it to buy the upgrades.

i made hundreds of beats on a 60 with no os upgrade.


i would say that the memory upgrade, and a working backlight are priorities.

kevtech - i got that workstation at staples like 4-5 years ago. don't know if they still sell them but you can try and look. good luck!

Enjoy your new find. You can start using it the way it is, or upgrade to 3.10. You'll have the same as the 3000, minus extra memory and stero samples. It looks good.

anyway, i am also quite new to mashine but i find it straight forward to learn... i just had it not even a month but if you want to hear my opinion: GET THE OS!!!

SCSI well would be nice, but not worth that $ for me... floppy to USB Floppy should be fine
