I bought a 1000 yesterday and realized that it doesn't have the feature that I remember seeing in all other mpc's which is the "Shift Timing" (Later or earlier). Under the T.C menu.

I know that the JJ OSv2 has that feature and was wondering if you thought that it is an essential part of what gives the mpc it's uniqueness? Being able to move notes earlier or later is part of what makes the mpc so great and wondered how they could have left this feature out of the 1000?

I am debating whether to get the JJOS and have read comparison charts/threads etc.. I think I would buy it simply for this feature but just wanted to get some thoughts on whether having it with the 1000 has made a big difference??

Any insight would be great.. and when I get this feature back in JJOS2 will it act exactly like it does in the 3000 or the 2000XL?

Many many thanks in advance..

Yes the shift timing in JJ OS is just like the 2kxl and 3k. And it indispensable for me. There is no good reason not to get JJ OS (at the very least the free version - which fixed a fatal bug). In fact, I bought the 1k for JJ OS, not the other way around. If there was no JJ, I would have a 3k (or maybe a 4k) right now.

JJ OS2XL also has Quantize Strength which, as far as I know, makes it unique amongst MPCs. And its a very useful feature...

Thank you very much mp3, just the kind of information I was looking for!!

I never understood why they didn't implement that feature in the standard Akai OS, I think it is one of the great features of the MPC and allows a lot more control over notes and timing!

Thanks again.

No doubt.

They didn't add it because that's their way of differentiating the 1k and the 2.5k They're basically the same machine with the 2.5k having more audio/MIDI outputs, and a CD drive. So they left off additional features out of the OS in order to justify the $1k price difference.
