what's up ya'll. My question of the minute is, How do you go about determining the "key" that a beat might be in incase of needing the right singer (vocal range) for a hook. thanks for any help.

well the key shows up in the programs screen( when you hit a pad-it exact location on a keyspread is given)-but if you samle a drum it wont play it at differnt "keys" those keys are to tell you where that sound is in midi/keyboard terms. Basically the spread......along the keyboard. but the a trained singer should actually be abled to tell you what "note" or octave you are p[laying.......you can adjust that in 16 levels or in the tuning.

if you hav a controller or midi keyboard, turn on a drum track, when you play the keys you should be able to trigger the sounds in he mpc.........it will match up with the key its assigned to.

"if there was an mpc in the whitehouse, we wouldn't be dealing with this 5hit!"

the short and dirty of it would be to get a book or read the net for info on basic music theory to figure out the relations between notes, intervals and octaves. all those nerdy music teachers start to seem alot cooler once you get into this.

There is a program out there that can help you with figuring out the key of your sample.......I have to dig thru the archives to find it for you........but it is possible and logical to know so when you match tracks with others you know what key to bring it in and also for instructing your vocalist...........

Excellent post once I find it I will post it here and I will also post it in the newbie bible.

Much Respect,
Phatz
