Stereo Out Balance Problem

Hi Everyone!

My problem is, that my stereo main out is unbalanced. The left channel is louder than the right one.
All my samples are mono samples, and in the mixer mode all samples balances are set to the middle.

Any ideas what could be the problem?

Did it just happen, or has it been that way? Do you plug and unplug the outputs a lot? Do your other outputs also come out unbalanced?

alot of signals come in this way. Its not all that uncommon. If the difference is extreme then check your connections. If you switch the L and R on the MPC and the meter changes as well then you know the MPC is fine and its somewhere else in the signal chain.

Its been that way for a while. I think it "works" this way since I bought it. I mainly used only the left mono out, so that's why it bothered me, but right now I really need a clean balanced stereo main out...

Could you be more precise, how common is this situation? Why is it "common"?
I switched the cables, and the meter changed, BUT when I used my 12 or 34 outs, the samples were balanced!

its especially common on older records where there wasnt an industry pushing for such high levels. Additionally you can find many records where the drums may be dominant on one side and the vocals on another. Either way I run in to many records like this. If the balance bothers me enough I will adjust it in the internal mixer.

Yep. Heard bout that, and saw it myself when I sampled my dads records... But this time I sampled an oldschool yamaha synth
Every freakin sample is acting this way, and its really annoying that I have to balance each of them in the internal mixer...
Is there any main balance in the MP? Guess not...

and like I said, if it seems a bit severe then it may be time to start troubleshooting. Let me know how it goes. Peace

Sounds like a hardware problem to me.

If it happens with mono samples then it definitely isn't an issue with the samples you are using, as pound is alluding to. If your 1-2 and 3-4 outputs are behaving correctly, then its almost definitely a hardware problem.

Resoldering the output jacks may or may not help. Replacing the output volume knob (or output opamps, caps, etc...) may or may not help. At any rate, its a problem I'd leave to the pros. Unless you have a digital multimeter (or preferrably an oscilloscope) and extensive experience troubleshooting and repairing electronics.

I knew this would be a "real" problem...
Mono samples, all balanced at outputs 1-2 and 3-4, unbalanced on the main stereo out.
I really hope that my poor country has a professional MPC maintenance crew, here in Hungary
Unless I'm going to use my MP in mono mode, or the other 4 outputs.
