or are they the same engine? ( i think i ve read that somewhere) and the ASR is just advanced in Ram and fx and....

not saying that it is better than the sequencer on the 3k but the asr sequencer is dope!

a lot of producers use it, i think people just ish on it kuz it's not as simple as the mpc.

i recently started using it and once you get the hang of it, it butterz.

it has a real nice feel to it.

Agreed.

I'll be honest. Right now I sold one of my mpcs to get an ASR (forget about any sort of cheap price if you're in the UK - postage costs will get you) and don't regret it for a minute. Personally, I find the sequencer excellent to work with - I will say that if you're more used to a more visual way of working then it might not be for you, but I do prefer the one on the ASR to the one on my mpc (JJOS 2500).
A big part of this is just the way people work I guess.

You're point about the info vanishing is dead on. If I had the knowledge and time to set up one of these kinds of forums for an ASR 10 I would. Look up the ASR-10 forum and you can almost hear the tumbleweed rolling across, but every so often there are good people there who help out.

Your right, info resources have dryed up almost to nothing out there.

ASR and EPS have the same sound, like you said, ASR is just bigger and badder with the ram, mono and other small features. They sound the same.

hmm, well i ve to admit simplicity is quite a factor for me, otherwise it gets a creatvity killer for me fast.

i understand that one big advantage lies in the filters, as you seem to be able to filter unwanted parts like bass out of for example a hihat...

the "round" tone as Grouphome described it, is actually somethign that i may very much like for drums aswell, as i connect round to tape sound (tamed hights and large low end) in my head.

hmmm ok but back to topic "sequencer" that are 2 ppl who say it works great.... i really wonder if i can justifie the 3k than... also Vailixi and card reader adds up to the price.... quite an expensive thing if only used to sequence.
i am somehow expecting the 3k pads to be butter and a pleasure to play on, but that is my imagination, they may feel as stiff as newer ones for me, i cant know as i never played a 3k yet.
But i figure a 70,- euro MPD16 would let me save a lot of money for tapping drums if the ASR seq. works well and have a good feeling.... and i have to admit that i dont like the idea of having 2 samplers... the simplicity of my workflow allready is endangered there :)

on the other hand i could get together quite complex arrangements... i have a SICK 24 channel summing-unit with mute toggles for each channel (DIY'ed by some cat from the States) and i could feed 8 from the 3k 8 (expanded) from the ASR and another 8 from my SE1 and Logic. AND ALL the muting etc takes place in one place wit the mute toggles.

just thinking out loud, but its a hard decision.... i would save lot of cash without the 3k while not knowing if it d be worth it.
But it would be my only MPC

mpc sequencer is tighter than asr.

asr filters are pure sickness when you get down and deep into the many pages of settings.

"Filter - 2 digital filters in series, one low-pass, one high pass. Up to 4-pole filtering with 6, 12, 18, and 24 dB/oct slopes."

NO HOMO (I hate that phrase but I had to use it) - having 4 poles is great. There's no other way to say it, lol.

ok i ve got oe more question about the Sequencer please... lamp,grouphome..anybody that owns, uses one

how well is the Sequencer for Off beat things and swing-like stuff ? allright? very good? sucks bad?

what i mean with off beat things.. is that swing ting on the mpc... so that for example my snare dont hit exactly on beat, but bit earlier or later.. ya ll know what i am talking about

so is the ASR Sequencer good in this disciplie / is there sth lcompareable to Grid mode in jjos2 ?

ehm.... on more: about the OEX-6sr Expander... is the Sound in ANY way different than thoughthe regular Stereo outs? cleaner or sth?

There is no grid mode, there is no function that nudges ALL events forward/backward, it's all manual.
You go into step edit and place the events where you want them to be within the 96ppq. You can record straight
into the quantize or you can go timing off and manually nudge ticks where you want them to be. There is always a
before/after comparison after recording and you have the choice "keep old/new" and you can hear both and compare.

The whole machine is more manual than people would like.

U.S. Navy - USS Greenlet - and the TYPE of ship it is (ASR10), lmao.
You can see the designation on the front side, "ASR-10".

WHAT OTHER GEAR has a WHOLE ship?

DO NOT, place your media on TOP of the part of the ASR10, it's the power supply, it gets HOT
and it WILL erase your media..

heh, yes i dont mind doing it manualy event by event, i didnt move like all events together in jjos grid mode.

good to know its possible, i just wanted to know how good the seq is for quite offbeat loose sounding drumworx

i watched some tutorials... i figure i would record everything in 16th (or do after rec) and than grab for example the sanre and change it manualy and out of quant.

ight?

Yeah, you can do that, that's an easy one.

It just throws some people off when I tell them that everything inside the ASR is manual and
no batch programming functions like they are used to with computer or mpc's. That puts a frown on
some people face.
