updating OS... back up all contents of internal hard drive?

I have version 1.23 and I'm trying to upgrade to 1.24


it says...

!!! BEFORE YOU BEGIN !!!

Please make sure to back up all contents of the internal hard drive BEFORE upgrading the OS.

After upgrading, it is recommended that you format your internal hard drive.

how do I do this? and why is is necessary?

and how do I format my internal after upgrading?


seems mandatory, I just want to know before I go about the instructions they're giving me...

any help? I don't want to proceed with doing this without 'backing up' like they say

what am I backing up if I'm replacing it?

and when I'm done, how to I 'format' my internal hard drive?

Your data that is on the hard drive. Am I right in assuming that you have a clean, fresh, unused hard drive? If so, then you have nothing to back up.

Page 111 of the user manual, except for 'harddrive' and not 'memorycard'. This is a slight guess since I've been using JJOS since the second week of owning my mpc2500.
