Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000

Hey everybody. I have a few questions regarding the AKAI MPC2000XL which I just recently purchased off of Amazon. I purchased it for $700 and it came with the machine & power cable, that's it.

Now, I am very new to the production aspect of music, so excuse me if this all sounds ridiculous or stupid, since it didn't come with a manual, I am lost. A few questions.

1. There isn't any sound coming out of it. Now, I am assuming you need to use the disk drive to fill it up with sounds, as it doesn't come already equipped with sounds. Any place where I can get the sounds or maybe have to transfer free sounds off of the Internet to the disk drive and upload them that way?

2. Are their any types of specific speakers which would work well? I recently discovered that the cables on the back of the MPC are much bigger than regular computer speakers. I bought a MIDI to USB so they can play that way, but I haven't been able to test it out without sounds.

Thanks guys.

Hold on Fellas... I got this... :D

First off... Welcome to the Forum! This is an excellent site to learn about your now beloved MPC.
Now... your next priority is getting the 2000XL manual and read it continously. Here it is...
http://www.akaipro.com/stuff/contentmgr/files/0/b5c91408a88e3d9ea75ec3dd516dfaad/file/mpc2000xl_e.zip
With your manual and MPC together, learn it inside and out. If you can't find your answers in the manual., come back to this forum and do a search. If you can't find your answer in a search, then post your question in the appropriate forum topic.

Good Luck!

Sample Kings... er...uh.... well... their DVD didn't help me much. Not to diss but if you are totally lost and don't know the difference between MIDI, SCSI and are too scared to turn on your MPC and try it out on your own, then the Sample Kings DVD is for that person.

The best money I ever spent to learn my 2000XL was this:
http://www.mpc-samples.com/product.php/48/beat-making-on-the-mpc2000xl/
It's an excellent PDF file complete with samples to easilly learn your 2000XL... coupled with the Manual of course.
Also it's made by the man who owns this forum... MPC TUTOR!!!!
