eventho Lampdog and mr. manual are trying to help i cant get the effects thing goin

i start to feel stupid, but:

Fx select/bypass gives me: FX=INST 31 Voices at 30 KHZ

and is not changeable in ANY way... the only thing i can do is moving the cursor forward to the ROM effects (and yes they are complete... i think 45 but i hardly will use global effects)

EDIT + EFFECTS (actualy its non of the # buttons but a dedicated button) gives me:

"FX= OFF 31 voices at 30 KHZ" and is in no way changeable, neither with cursor nor data slider

the parts in the manual and Lamb`s explanation do give me the impression that i should be easily able to make changes from either of those 2 locations, but i can not...

+

when in the main load (play) area and pressing the EFFECT button it says "no effect files"

i dont know whats wrong

Thats it.

The ROM effects ARE your effects.

MORE RTFM. The effects are probably THE most detailed section of the manual.

Same question you asked me in PM's, we'll just keep your questions here in the open then.

More people can possibly chime in.

Are you trying to choose completely different effects for each instrument
and expecting to hear them all?

hmmm, in this test-periods i only have ONE Inst. loaded... the only way i was able to apply an effect to it was choosing one of the Rom effects.

when FX= INST or = BANK is selected i will not hear a thing happening and i will not be able to choose from a list of effects...

so, as far as i understood ROM and BANK are Gobal and not INST. specific no?

I sent you this pm's a few days ago. :? :?

Check out Effects Concepts, Section 5, ASR10 manual for detailed info on effects.

INST (Instrument) Effects
Each instrument that you load into the ASR-10 contains an effect and a complete set of parameter
values that determine how that effect will sound. The effect is present even if none of the voices
in the instrument are routed through the effect (e.g. all voices are sent to the AUX 1, 2, or 3
destination busses), or FX= OFF, BANK, or ROM on the FX Select•FX Bypass page. Whenever
you save an instrument, the effect settings are also saved with the instrument.

BANK Effect
Each bank contains an effect and a complete set of effect parameters. When selected, this effect
applies to all instrument/tracks (or their instrument voices) that are routed to BUS 1, 2, or 3. You
can think of Instrument Effects as individual effects and Bank Effect as a global effect.

ROM Effect
In addition to the Bank Effect, that can be changed by loading in a new effect from disk, or
Command/Effect, COPY CURRENT EFFECT command (more on that later in the section), there
are a large number of additional ROM Effects.

okay i think i am getting there

when in FY SELECT/BYPASS i select BANK (wich is strangly only ONE reverb) or when i select one of the ROM effects and go to edit TRACK or EFFECT i now can choose variations of that effect

however i wonder why when BANK is selected there is only ONE Reverb effect and i wonder why when INST. is selected that all BUSSES (Bus1-3 / Aux1-3) are "DRY"

shouldnt i be able to change the effects exactly for these Busses seperatly?

but i am getting there........

slowly

ok i think i really got it now.... i select one of the rom effects and apply a variation in the AMP or TRACK window... and when i go back to FXselect/Bypass it shows this effect as BANK!

but something really is odd now.....

now since i got this done and can change the effect for the loaded patch i waned to load another patch to check how to isolate them from each other (so they dont have the effect both)

but i cant freaking load anythign anymore now..... when i go LOAD now it tells me "NO EFFECT FILES! ?????

WTF did i do wrong no again?

why dont i get the LOAD screen to coose from the DISK patches now?

EDIT: hmmmmmm okay i just tried to SAVE the Instrument now after making those EFFECT changes... he did not let me save saying "DISK IS WRITE PROTECTED" (if i am not mistaken there is a small switch on the Disk itself to remove the protection)

but miracle... after that i was in the correct LOAD window to choose from teh other INSTRUMENTS on the Disk again

that leads me to the conclusion that i have to save an Instrument that i made changes to before i can load a new one into the ASR 10 memory?

besides that i think i got it all for now

And spell my name right, lol, Lampdog, a lamb I am not.

Chapter 5
INST (Instrument) Effects
Each instrument that you load into the ASR-10 contains an effect and a complete set of parameter
values that determine how that effect will sound. The effect is present even if none of the voices
in the instrument are routed through the effect (e.g. all voices are sent to the AUX 1, 2, or 3
destination busses), or FX= OFF, BANK, or ROM on the FX Select•FX Bypass page. Whenever
you save an instrument, the effect settings are also saved with the instrument.

Chapter 5
BANK Effect
Each bank contains an effect and a complete set of effect parameters. When selected, this effect
applies to all instrument/tracks (or their instrument voices) that are routed to BUS 1, 2, or 3. You
can think of Instrument Effects as individual effects and Bank Effect as a global effect.
The Bank Effect is saved with each bank. It will remain unaffected until a new bank is loaded,
unless it is specifically edited.
Switching instruments within the bank will not select a new effect.
Whenever an independent effect file (one that is not attached to either an instrument or a bank) is
loaded from disk into the ASR-10, it is placed in the Bank Effect location.

ROM Effect
In addition to the Bank Effect, that can be changed by loading in a new effect from disk, or
Command/Effect, COPY CURRENT EFFECT command (more on that later in the section), there
are a large number of additional ROM Effects.
ROM Effects are similar to the Bank Effect in that they perform globally, affecting all instruments
residing in memory
. However, they differ in the fact that while the Bank Effect can be replaced,
the ROM Effects are stored in Read Only Memory and will always reside in the ASR-10. Even after
turning off the ASR-10, the ROM Effects will stay in memory.
The ROM Effects are displayed by pressing the FX Select•FX Bypass button and scrolling with
the Data Entry controls. If you edit any of the parameters of a ROM effect (on the Edit/Effects
page), that effect is instantly copied into the Bank Effect location.

Again, in case you didn't catch any of that.

oops sorry for the naming

okay... i see now, thanks for the highligths in this context.

only i dont see how this
"Whenever you save an instrument, the effect settings are also saved with the instrument."

would imply that i cant load a new sound (INST) until the one i am working on is saved (or tried to be saved)

however, that was only the case with the first one... strange... anyway i think i am good to go now

Load an instrument into a different track button and the effects that is saved with it will go into
that same button, wont even affect the other instruments and their effects within them.

ion wrote:well the concept IS quite unusual...

Well, remember I told you before that you'll have to rethink alot in order to get your head around this
kybd, but it's worth it.
