128 mb Ram Necessary?

I just purchased my first mpc 1000 used off ebay. Looks to be in great condition and is running JJOS2XL. What I'm wondering is how necessary it is to upgrade the ram and exactly how it effects the mpc. The ram upgrade is all over the internet for prices ranging from 11 dollars to almost 100. What is the difference between some ram and other? Can someone help me out? Thanks!

more ram means longer and more samples.

with the stock ram you cant load up nearly as much sound files so you might wind up hitting a wall somewhere along the lign. Ram prices vary, the akai ram is not better... any ram that you can get that will work in the machine will be the same.

I've got 512MB of RAM... in my MV-8000!

Considering people like premo made classics with much less ram.. it is not mandatory to to upgrade from 16 mb
and it hust makes you that much more picky on making your kits.

BUT,,,, VERY IMPORTANT


probably the biggest reason I upgraded the ram to the 128mb was

To be able resample the main outs thus making a stereo file of a whole mixed down beat/song inside the machine in the ram then saving that beat .wav approc 50mb worth of that 128.

that was something could not do with just the 16mb

there it is only 11 dollars 50 cen....(if your in usa)t versus the 75 or 100 for akai's branded one and it works perfect

hell the sticker on it even said akai exm 128 so guess is same dam ram works perfect i swear but like 10 times less price

THANKS...that helps a lot. I was able to get the ram for 11.50 as you pointed out. I'm sure over the next few months I will be posting PLENTY of topics on here as I get used to using the new equipment.

Oh yeah, be carful as it does only fit in one way but they put a sticker on it and if put on the wrong side can make you attempt to put in wrong so just make sure the groove/cutout is in the right spot

Still waiting on the package to get here. I am getting anxious. Thanks again for the help.

Don't forget to ground yourself to earthbound metal or something when installing it. A small static can shock the memory chip and ruin it for good.
