storing floppys to the MAC via USB Floppy?

another thing to remember,
is that most usb floppy drives will not read double density disks.


you have to find a drive that will work with dd/ds disks.


there are only a few that will work.


also, if you are using "high density" disks with your 60,
then you will have to put some tape over the "hd" hole,
so your mac will not be confused.

i really wonder if you were lucky with your first drive or went through dozens before you checked the dynex

i did research to find out which drives support ds/dd.

took me about an hour.

bought a dynex, and it worked out of the box.

model number = confirmed

but i wanted to report back:

the Dynex Floppy running, through Adapter powered USB HUB, MPC 60 3.10 OS formatted and saved to floppy tried with and without taped whole

NO SUCSESS


fact is the MAC System profiler finds the Floppy drive with and without USB HUB... so its not a powering issue or anything

i have absolutly no clue whats left to try, i was sure it owuld work like this since its tested (by Lord Toranaga)



tried on my mates Vista PC aswell, gets recognized but asks to format and i couldnt find a way to see or copy the content


so is there any Software or either OSX or WIN that will certainly read these disks?

but for OSX i am loosing hope as it doesnt get mounted, also Translator doesnt see it, Disk Utility neither..only visible in the System Profiler/USB

I really don't know if I'm doing my file transfers in an unneccessary complicated way? I'm using Awave studio + Omniflop + WinImage to transfer converted wavfiles from an XP machine to the MPC60. Works great all the time, but perhaps it could be made quicker?

There seems to be a lot of threads dealing with the issue but no good walkthroughs/how-to's on different approaches... If needed I could explain my way of doing it if it would be of any help but perhaps it's already been done.

Sure, that's quite easy.

I have a freeware app called Omniflop installed. What it basically does is enabling an XP disk drive to correctly read and write quite a large number of floppy standards by replacing the standard floppy controller drivers. Follow the instructions when installing this - the only really critical part is the step in where you replace the standard Windows floppy controller driver with the Omniflop ones. That's quite good described in the user guide though.

Then, in Omniflop, just pick Akai + Akai MPC60 MKII as disk standard (don't use the "auto detect" feature, it takes ages and accomplishes nothing) then insert an MPC60 disk and pick the option to write a disk image. Writing the image is then quickly taken care of, shouldn't even take one minute.

I'm not sure if Omniflop works in Vista though. I've only used it in Windows XP with great success.

Well, yeah, if you can't use yor own computer for that task it might be overly complicated. I'm not a mac user so cannot really help you out with those issues, sorry.

if i cant find the issue and Toranaga isnt sharing further information i could either get the SCSI and forgett these troubles or could go back to my basic plan and ony use it for the Sequencer and the pads to play my drums on the ASR
