So out of mere curiousity I decided to do a quick test between the HD and CF cards.

Since I have two HDM10 trays for my 2500 I had one setup for use with the CF card(via my recently acquired adapter), and the other with my 80GB HD.
I used the same folder with 20 samples and a total size of 19.5MB. I Saved the identical folder to the 8GB Cf card and also to my 80GB HD.

Then I loaded the program from that folder of samples to the mpc from the 80GB HD. it took 8 seconds.
Then I performed the same exact task from the 8GB CF card. It also took 8 Seconds.

The difference came during saving.

During the save test, which was performed with the SAME folder of samples (in the already existing folder used to load from, and just replacing all the samples),
when saving from the MPC memory to the CF card the save to CF took 16 seconds.
The Same save from memory to the 80GB HD took 43 seconds.

I performed the save test 3 times each on both the CF and HD and got the same results each time.
So thus far, it seems that when saving samples to CF card, it yields a a pretty big speed advantage.

I still plan on testing this with some much larger kits/projects to really put it to the test.
My curiosity and the purpose of these test is for me to determine whether the increase in performance is enough to justify purchasing a large CF card to use instead of the 80GB HD which I just recently purchased. If there is a good enough speed advantage I will DEFINITELY do it. But since a 64GB or larger CF is pretty pricey.. im testing.
Im OCD like that.. wut can I say.

more to come later.

Yeah...I've got the adapter but have yet to buy my CF card- which make/model card did you buy Seelye?

You get it online or at a brick and mortar? If online, got a link?

Cool...That's a good price- I wonder if the price on 32 gb cards will go down anytime soon...

Great mods here... Perfect for shock-proof data storage.

One question... RE: transfer rate

If the MPC1000 uses USB 1.1... and that has a max transfer rate of 12Mb/s... then there's absolutely no point using CF cards which are faster than about 80x (80x = 12Mb/s).

Or am I missing something?

Are there any speed differences between using a CF card in the front slot VS using a CF card in a modded HDD bay?

I bought the parts and got it working in my MPC1K, too. Now trying to do something similar for my old AW4416 unit. Thanks!
