Compact Flash Card Question

So I was thinking about buying a mpc 1000 in a couple of weeks and just wanted to get together all the stuff I needed. I was going to buy a sandisk extreme III 8gb card, and I'm planning to sample my instruments from vsts to sequence on the beat machine. My problem is will 8gb be enough for sampling, for example I wanted to sample lows, mids, and highs for each instrument, all the black and white keys. Would 8gb be enough cuz I've never used an mpc and I'm not sure how much space the samples would take up.

It seems to me like your trying to build very large multi-samples. The Mpc, although it is capable of doing this, really isn't the best at this. If you try to build a large multi-sample stretching the entire range of the keyboard, or the 64 pads, with large samples on each key, you will be lucky if you are able to hold one multisample in the RAM at a time. Leaving little to no room for anything else. For multisamples on the Mp, I use nothing more than three keys per octave. I also try to keep it to one or two octaves. The kind of multisampling that your looking to do is best done on a keyboard. (I believe that the Mpc 4000 may be able to act as a rack type of sampler also...) The Mpc's are designed differently. I use my Fantom X for any large multisamples. Then I'll take just a few of those samples and drop them into my Mp just to mess around with. I could see where this would be very confusing, but the Mp is really designed for drums or short samples and phrases. There's a long, and actually very cool, story about how it morphed into the actual sampler that it is today... but nevermind all of that. Do a little more investigating before you jump in and spend a lot of money on a piece of equipment that might not be right for you. The compact flash card is for long term storage... The MPC1000 comes with 16MB of RAM installed by default, this is upgradeable to 128MB. This means you can use up to 128MB of samples at a time. The compact flash card is only for storage of your samples/programs/sequences/songs while the MPC is turned off... Just because you have an 8GB flash card does not mean you can load 8GB of samples at once.
