This is actually my Dad's collection, but I can go there and have free reign. He's since cleaned up the room a bit, put the turntables in the closet and started a shelf in a different part of the house. My collection is about half his and I only have 3 tech 1200s.

Similar artist, I can't name any off the top of my head but look for stuff from the 1950's. Look for 7" 45rpm records on the capitol label with purple labels. Look for stuff with the word mambo in the title.

Sam & Dave's "Hold On I'm A-Comin". Well known song but you can loop and chop that shit into microns and still make a bad azz beat from it.

if it's not old I don't touch it. i try for 1930-1960 most of the time, mainly blues and swing and such. don't take my word as gospel, i'm still fairly new to be honest.

i get some good music samples off of films and games aswell, God of War III should have something fun i reckons :)

i hear you. lot of good stuff worth checking out from earlier eras. but theres also lot of stuff from more recently worth a look as well. alot off ppl have dope songs with samples of songs from the 70s 80s 90s.

people need to bring the goods on this board though. (im playing. i been smoking and drinking all day [super bowl sunday fool]).

yeah i totally agree, (curtis mayfield is awesome, btw). i just sample from that period because i find it fun, i just make what i would like to hear.

Basically anything from the whole soul/funk/disco area preferrably from the 70s and 80s. But you can sample anything really... in my opinion, you should only sample from music that you enjoy.

Well yesterday I was diggin at the local thrift and came across a copy (2nd one) of Donald Byrd and Issac Hayes '125th and Harlem' album. The first cut on the first side called something like "love will come around" is just groovin' man, can't stop listening to it. This record is from 1980 I believe and its just some of the catchiest funkiest Disco sh*t with that vintage Isaac Hayes twist, such a cool feel good vibe.

Last week I found this album by Hermann Szobel. He recorded it when he was 18, and it's absolutely mental. Very fast, almost breakcore-esque drum patterns in odd time signatures with spastic, dancing piano pieces in the mix, lively horns and that energetic vibe of dischord. It's seriously one of the best albums I've ever enjoyed. It's crazy because this stuff rivals most modern electronic composers and it was recorded in '75.

Apparently this is the only recording of his. After doing one joint he dropped off the face of the planet. Such a shame. :(
