replaced scsi fuse, mcp2k still wont recognize zip drive

I have been having a lot of trouble with my mpc2000. I have 2 zip drives that act up on me, but they usually work. I am assuming that i must have unplugged the scsi cable and blew the fuse, because the mpc would not recognize any scsi device i plugged into it. I tried both zip drives, and my scsi cd rom drive. The drives seemed to be working fine, but the mpc kept telling me "wait"

so i have another mpc2000 i use for spare parts. I figured out where the scsi fuse was, then went to radio shack and bought the a soldering gun, solder, and desoldering braid. I swapped out the fuses, put everything back together and turned on the mpc.

still wont recognize scsi

does anyone know of any other reason i would get the "wait" message, even if i replaced the fuse.

is it possible that i soldered it in backwards?

they arent clicking, so i think they are still good

i also have a scsi cd rom drive, built like a tank, and it wont recognize that either

i dont wanna have to buy another mpc, i love this 2000

do you have a scsi cable?

are you sure you have the right zip drive? you need scsi. you will know you have the right one because it has 2 switches on the back, one switch is for termination and one is for scsi id.

plug the scsi cable into the input on the back of the scsi drive. there are 2 inputs, plug it into the one that says "zip" above it.

then plug the cable into your mpc (MAKE SURE TO DO THIS WHILE MPC IS OFF, OR YOU WILL FRY YOUR SCSI FUSE LIKE I DID lol)

@destruction: are you sure you replaced the scsi fuse?



Its usually an orange rectangle part but I changed it to this one cause this one use a socket (if its blown again it a lot easier to change the fuse).

If you are sure you changed the correct part I cant help you, sorry.
Just a few thoughts:
Check the soldering if its a cold solderpin (dont know if this is spelled correct ) Or maybe the fuse is blown by the soldering (too much heat for more than a few seconds).

Only problem with that is one of the things he really likes about the OG 2k is the jog wheel.
As far as the rest it's a step up and he could swap any options he has right into the XL.
Plus XL's are dirt cheap now.

if i get another mpc, it will most likely be another classic 2k, unless my homie gives me a crazy deal on his 1k that he never uses.

I got same kind of problem. (solved few minutes ago)
week ago i take my classic downstairs so i could do some experiments with it at same time i look some soap-operas from TV. (with my skills it's more experimenting than composing)

So i take my zip drive and connected to the 2000. Directly, with that original iomega cable. ("diamond"-marking at the end of the cable and "zip" at the other end).
I have used MPC and that zip-drive together before. Somehow this setup didn't work anymore. MPC freezes and gave this "wait"-message. I was quite sure that fuse or drive was blown.

Today i made a test again and put external CD-drive between MPC and zip. Because CD has those Centronics-SCSI-connectors, i must change SCSI-cables to the different ones than original.
Result was that MPC recognizes the ZIP (and of course the CD).

Can't remember, have i ever used zip alone with mpc or has there been cd always in the chain also.
