probably a really silly question

but i haven't come across this and i lurk around here quite a bit, so here is my query:
can i use the mpc 1000 like i would use a stomp box sampler like a boss rc-20xl ?
i know the mpc 1000 comes with an input for an on off floor switch.........like here's an easy example, playing a drum loop on the mpc 1000 and playing guitar along with it and adding a bunch of loops over and over and over again til pretty soon you have a wall of sound that sounds pretty much like mud ? can i ? huh ? can i can i ??

i 've been dreamin' 'bout this feature or a trick with my 1K JJ )S 4.99 for a while now....

kept asking here on the forum if there is a way to even remotely imitate some short Live looping -recording with just a mic / audio input and an an MPC without Ableton Live or other software..... but still got no answer ....

You try audio tracks 57-64? Live record, have your bars set, read the manual (jj's version) should esplain it in there.

okay, tapuno, i'll try to figure out what you're talking about. i searched footswitch and got some good info. i will start messing around to see whether or not i need to get a kp3 to do what i want to to do with the mpc. some folks use the kp3 as a foot triggered sampler and play the mpc along with it and their guitar or whatever with the mpc 1000 and the kp3 synced up via midi. a kp3 is another 3 bills or so...........

checked the JJ manual on the site, playing with it right now... sampling vinyl into short loops... looks interesting.. still have to figure out all the possibilities and limitations of this great feature

thanks! Im getting back into spitting gradually, I originally started as a rapper. But yeah, the live record feature on the 1000 is a godsend, but I believe its only on JJ and OS1.20(akai) but JJ's is much better. You can use that feature to lay guitars/keys over the beat too. As for what I use right now, an external sampler and a 2000xl, but I owned the 1000 for about 3 years.

What he doesnt mention is that the audio tracks will record the performance of any external audio source. Lets say you got a guitar amp with a line out, with a y cable you can run it into the inputs of the MPC, and record your guitar performance there. Same with keyboards, just run it in. Whats cool tho, if you set a MIDI track with it, it will automatically quantize the keystrokes you put in. Maybe this will also work with midi guitars?

you cant do what you are trying I looked into it a little while ago. All that can be done is you use the audio tracks and record in on a loop but you cannot layer the sounds you are recording in it will just play the most recently recorded audio. You can set the MPC so that the recording does not stop once the recorded number of loops has played out . The only way of doing what you want is with an external device.

but he doesnt talk about the "audio business" at all .... as if its not really important new feature of JJ OS..

but not fully explaining its capabilities. I should be buying a 1000 on monday, and if it has JJ, ille go thru it, but welle see on monday.

frags: i'm sure you're right and since i really love the mpc even though I am still stumbling through the tutorial i got from this web site (jj os 3.09); I know I will employ it somehow in a live setting similar to this fellow on YT. but i still want to check out what you guys are talking about.......how do you spell newby, noobie, newbie, knewbee, noobee, not really sure
