...does the MPC 2000 Classic / XL Have any FX or filters without the optional EB-16? I tried to find information on google but couldnt. Please help me!

I do only know about the 2000 xl, but i think it´s the same with the 2000.

They don´t have any effects like delay, echo, chorus, etc...

what they do have is filter and resonanz. you can lower the high frequencies with the filter. and resonanz is cool (?!?) but i have no explanation for it. it boosts the higher frequencies or something...

you can use the filter and resonanz with every single sample.

also you can simulate effects. you can use the gain while sampling to distort the signal for example.
you can do lots of things only with the mpc itself... search the net or ask in the forum.
but its easier to track out into a DAW and use the effects within the DAW. you can automate easily, you can meter your actions....

So, if that helps with the decision of buying,
you know how to contact me :)

resonance raises the amplitude around the cutoff frequency.

A delay is also easy to emulate. You can use the 16Level (Velocity) function for this.

Why didn't you just look in each manual?

It's exactly as they say above though.

Sorry I just recently found 2000 Classic manual, it wasnt on the mpc sounds website (there is only XL manuals).

Thanks for the info guys! 8) Reason im asking because after many years I finally am coming back to the MPC world.(MPC 2000 Classic) Sorry Floating Fluids, im not going to buy your MPC 2000XL, because I got the 2k classic for cheap, but your MPC was looking nice and the price wasnt bad so Im sure someone will cop it in notime.

Are the MPC effects bad? Ive heard that they arent even usable, so what am I really missing? Maybe I should just save somecash for the 8out and track everything to daw. Glad it has filters! (Does this mean it has 3band eq aswell?)

No, just LPF

Aren't even useable is an opinion and not even a true statement.

LPF on mpc 2k/2kxl seems to be 1 pole?!? Not suited for low end theory application like so
many are looking for.

What is a Single Pole Filter?

A 4 pole low pass filter will remove highs at 24 dB per octave.
A 2 pole low pass filter will remove highs at 12 dB per octave.

the low pass filter was okay... it was handy to tone down some highs. resonance is cool to turn samples into metal cyborg samples (imo **** up samples)

eb16 has some better filter options... the eb16 fx are not great but you can make some awesome as hell stuff with them even though I find them terrible when not doing extremely experimental stuff with them.

Ok.. But lets say I want to cut low end of my sample so I can make my own B-line? Wait, I have a DJ Mixer with 3 band eq.. problem solved

yeah you gotta think of that ahead of time before you record the sample instead of after once you played with the sample and figured out exactly what you will do with it.

the only thing i use from the eb-16 fx is the filter EQ but you have to adjust the F-mod to zero, that mod is annoying..it distorts the sounds terribly.

I've had good results using resonance AND regular onboard filter together making basslinews before.
But, those good results were far and few inbetween.

Save urself the trouble and use outboard filters.

Forgot about that, I've only ever heard good things about it (never played with it though).

imo the effects are just fine if you know what you want and adjust them to suit your ears... everything needs tweaking you cant just drop in presets like with software where efx are already fine tuned to be the most suitable and subtle efx to work across the board for most genres... reverb is good with shortly chopped samples to fill in the air i always use the echo and filter/EQ other than that what else could you want? unless youre planning to just stereo the track into a cheap recording software where you cant do jack as far as plug-ins or mulitple tracks all that stuff can be done after the beat is tracked down...

like most have said already in the program window there is one lpf with resonance good for boosting the bass of a loop by duplicating the sample setting the simultaneous play for those pads and filtering one low and turning the res up...

also open window on the resonance or freq for some fun....
