Synth for Good Bass

Thanks. Well I'd considered the computer route because I imagine there are a lot of good plug ins for moog etc bass sounds, but I think you're right there isnt much point taking the computer route now for the purpose of bass. Hopefully the Pulse will give me the bass sounds I'm after theres only one way to find out, I might consider computers in the future, and I'll also probably end up selling the microkorg and pulse one day to go all out and get a moog. but waldorf pulse, £185, wasn't worth missin out on today

Disappointed after tweaking, maybe that's just my lack of skill but also the sound from Microkorg never sounds very big, which is what attracted me to the pulse.


Also, with both but more so the yamaha stage keyboard, when I record bass of most voices, usual specific notes, they go out of key. I cant really explain this any better than, you're playing the right notes and they sound right then when you listen again closer some of the notes are actually very flat almost to the extent it sounds like the note a semitone below. I don't know if anyone else has experienced this or can explain it. But I guess something designed for decent bass wouldn't have this problem.

I was in your shoes the past month looking for the same thing.


I spent forever looking for a novation bass station but couldnt find one.
I also looked at a Korg R3 and have owned a Microkorg and a Alesis Micron.

I ended up buying a Mopho and it blew out my monitors. I think that if you work with the Mopho like you work with an Mpc you can get really creative with it.

I also bought the Mopho Pro Program editor.

The editor is very buggy but it has alot of fresh tweaks. Their is something on it called genetics that will take two presets and make dozens of different offspring presets based of the two presets you chose to mix.


I like how small the Mopho is but I wish it had an on off switch. Its pretty easy to find the right bass sound though. I will start off my tracks by adding simple bass notes, then I can scroll through 350+ presets via Midi till I match the right sound. I then tweak the knobs till the Low end filiters are just right and I have my bassline.

Maybe your Microkorg would do the job though.... it does for blackmilk

If it's affordable hardware you want then the Seq Pro 1 is known for it's low end, as are the SH09 and Prodigy, and one of my favs the SH3a, but no midi.
However, the Pulse or just about any synth with half decent filters will do.

If it's software then I suggest you check out Rob's SubBoomBass.

overlooked method for bass is bass drum sounds filtered, pitched,with various envolopes.and that sinewave preset that came with the mpc 2000 was amazing.also i agree with dabs that the minimoog plugin is wicked!!gonna have a go with that now.irie

My Man, hit me with the PM, I've got some bass samples from a few different Moog Keyboards, a Prophet and some of the other synths you mentioned. I'd be happy to share them.
