oh and speaking on that topic...

out of curiosity I wanted to see if there was any word on when the hardware was coming out or were the MPC forum members correct about it being vapourware. turns out that there is no mention of the hardware anywhere on the beat kang website... looks like they only mention the software now. The website looks like a giant advertisement infomercial filled with "but wait... there's more" type shit and all these testimonials and other crap... package deals for getting more sounds and videos of famous people who tried out their product.

so then I decided to check the torrent sites... and low and behold it's available... hahahahhahaha! <--- times 1000

I've only tried two software samplers and in both cases I was not impressed. The Maschine and Guru.

why do people even chime in if they are tired of the maschine talk? why not read the title of the thread and just move on? are people secretly intrigued or compulsive haters or what? it has its ups and downs just like EVERYTHING else. I used to get on these forums to learn but now it's turned into a bunch of bitching!!!!!!

Is there anyway to "foe" the word maschine? Maybe replace it with the MPC 3500?

Comparing Maschine with Guru is missing the point. Maschine does not feel like using a software (compared to software-only programs like Guru/BPM) because of its dedicated hardware controller which works much like a MPC but without the limitations of standalone hardware. It works and feels more like using standalone hardware like MPC to the user compared to using a software with a mouse and a generic non-dedicated midi controller. Of course, you can use it like regular software and use a mouse, and it's nice to have that option too especially certain tasks that are better to use the mouse for, but it's all about the efficient, mouseless workflow you just cannot get from software-only samplers.

Personally I would say it closer to an MPC based setup than other software based programs and it is definitely based on an MPC but it still isn't there. Not that it has to be or is meaning to be.

A dedicated sampler, drum machine, hardware unit still has something that using a Laptop doesn't have. It may be esoteric but personally they don't have the same feel.

Saying that the maschine is great but the only reason I would and do ever use software over an MPC is to use a mouse and nudge things arounds. If I am on software I will always use a mouse.

If I want to avoid using a mouse and just tap out beats. I will always use an MPC. Of course everyone is different.

With my workflow when using software ableton can do everything that Maschine can do and more. Including multitracking, mastering and create live mixes.

But I guess when you look at it from another angle it really is a hybrid tool that you can use and develop your own technique on and I will probably hold onto mine. Plus, at least you know they will regularly update software.

Everything that you can do with knobs on maschine can be done with a mouse and possibly quicker within ableton.

The one thing I do really like though with Maschine is how easy it is to move samples from Pad to Pad. I think its main stregth is these kinda things and I will say the trimming has been greatly improved with 1.5. Thank god you can now zoom in.

In order to turn you into an MPC user here is what I've done:

Tap and Tune (pitch shift): Using JJ OS 2XL, I used JJs customized function to change the Numeric Button to a "Program" button. So anytime you want to change the pitch of a sample, just hit the Numeric Button and now you can tune the sample assigned to any pad using the data wheel on the fly. No need to hold down any pad. Just tap and tune.
