"hi all, i need a car - can anyone help me which one i should pick?" - its the exactly same question... it depends on what you need, expect, want....

I use a Roland SH09, Korg MS20, X0xb0x, DX9, Casio FZ1, 808, 606. I have these sound modules because I bought them after a lot of research and reading up about them (except the DX which was given to me).

My suggestion: do your own thinking. Download demo's of Reason, various VST's etc, work with them and figure out if you like them. Google some hardware synths and listen to clips of what they sound like. Read reviews of things.

Every dub-step tune on the radio (in England) at the moment is using the Albino synth plugin. It's unmistakable. Think what type of music u wanna make.

hey, I was curious about this albino plugin so I downloaded it, I thought it would be similar to like minimonsta where you just open the program and bam you have it, but it appears I need other software such as pro tools or something in order to open the program? anyone know any free demo's of programs which would allow me to use albino.

I guess ''plug in'' should of given it away.

thanks….

use reason, your gonna need a DAW regardless to bounce down your final beat anyway so the combo of pro tools/reason works very well. Reason is a beast of a virtual rack with tons of quality sounds, i use it for adding bass to my sampled beats and when im in a r&b mode i use it with the mpc as a sequencer..

Get a DAW... Ableton Live, Pro Tools, Sonar (dare I say Fruity Loops?)

With the DAW, you can then host instrument/effect plugins.

Get whatever instrument/effect plugins you want.

Or...

Go for things like the Emu Planet Phatt or Yamaha Motif Rack or whatever.

Again depends on what you like to do, if you enjoy working on a computer or want to hook up cables by hand.

Good luck and peace!

All great advice so far. Combining synth racks, beat/loop machines, plugins with a DAW help to conserve CPU. My DAW choice is Cubase 5 soon to be Cubase 5.5, which I'm surprised no one has mentioned. I have not dug deep into C5's MIDI capability yet, but after some tutorials, I can see it working along side my MPC1 as a MIDI/sampling sequencing companion or one day replacing my beloved MPC1 as the main brain of my set up. It's much more visual in programming, easier organization and recalling presets. Trust me, I am NOT a computer or software guy, but Cubase 5 has expanded my creativity and helped me integrate my entire setup which includes: MPC1000 jj2XL, MOOG Voyager, Motif Rack XS, Roland XP50, Novation Nova II, KORG Karma, microKORG & microKORG XL.
I started with Cubase AI4 that came with my Motif Rack XS and immediately upgraded when I got the money for Cubase 5. It may be somewhat difficult, but if you stick with it, it's so rewarding. It's not just press record and edit - it's so feature packed, you choose which method works best for you and you will spark creativity beyond what you thought you were capabale of! Lastly, I actually understand my MPC1 more because some of the features are so visual on C5 that are similar but not visual on the MPC thus making my MPC more fun to work with, which is the point!!

Famous, I'm happy for you. Nah, seriously! I've been using steinberg daws since vst 3.7 so I can agree with what you're saying. I use to slave my adat mdm from the daw. All it did was follow midi time code which was connected through a motu mtp a/v.

I prefer my daw to be the master since it's been doing a heck of a job at keeping things sync'd right. No problems here...

But I do also mix a bunch of hardware soundmodules/keyboards & vsti's to get whatever sound I can get.
