I'm thinking of getting Tascam 424mkIII to go with my MPC2xl

My setup is 2 vestax pdx turntables, Vestex 05pro mixer, MPC 2xl & a Dr. Sample 303.
Thats it No Computer.. The Tascam 424mkIII is cheap and has allot of good reviews. I can't afford the ones that record onto cd has anybody used a 4 track with there mpc? this one is also a 8 chanel mixer!? Should I get it??
for the same price I could also get one of those cheap mackie mixers but since I don't have a computer I think the tascam might be better because it can record onto tape.

Ive used that before. Its dope. I love it. Once you record a tape onto that though, it doesnt work in a regular tape player. You hafto just play on the tascam while you record the outputs of the tascam from an external tape recorder. Thats not even hard to do.

Goin all hardware is the way to go IMO. I def think thats worth the money. Ive used it with the MPC2KXL and the EPS16+. It works great with them, except i have a 16-channel mixer i use to put them through before they go into the tascam. Thats not needed, but it will work better if you also want to record mc's on it. But now that i think about it, you could use the 8 outs of the MPC into the 8 ins of the tascam then just mixdown the whole beat into one tascam channel, if you wanna use the other channels for an mc.

Before you go for this I'd have a look at the current cheap digital multitrackers around. Boss, Zoom & Fostex seem to do the cheapest, with Roland, Yamaha, Korg & Akai being the next price range up. I think you'll find any digital recorder a lot more versatile than tape.

Thats if you like digital. I prefer analog, so id rather have a good analog multitrack then a cheap digital one.

It's all about preference.There are pros and cons to both.(digital and analog).But since we live in a digital more advanced time,i have to go digital.I use the Roland Vs840Ex and i love it.There are still alot of things i don't know how to do on it yet,but when i get the time to sit down and figure it out,i'm sure i'll love it even more.

analog - thats what I like to hear. I use the tascam 414 and its real solid. no waiting around - pop in the tape and set it off. the tascam has a hi and low eq for each channel which can be a turn off to some. but I use it with a mackie 12 channel mixer which has a 5 band eq and using that, your eq is very flexible. the sound from the cassettes is so much better than I would have expected. I take the line out from the tascam to my stand alone cd burner and its as easy as that to put your stuff on cd.

Hey Expert Witness what kind/Brand of stand alone cd burner do you have? I was not aware you could do that.

HHB make good stand alone CD burners here in the UK. Check out Tascam, Denon & Marantz too.

mine's a klh that I got a best buy for around 250. its got 2 trays, analog out and in, digital in and it burns at 12x. and its got some nice preset eq's and a bass boost. you really cant tell that a cassette 4 track was the original source as long as you dont play or rerecord over the cassette too much.

man when I was a freshman in high school I bought a tascam 424mk2 and I learned the basics on it. I loved it but later on I bought a roland 840ex 8 track and it was so much better to me. It had effects and I didnt have to rewind anymore and I could record without that tape hiss. It's funny the other day I found an old tape I had done on the tascam and I popped it in my normal tape player and it played all slow but it brought back so many memories. ahhhh simpler times. crappier music.
