Just getting my money together and ready to start buying my first gear.
What pro tools model would you guys buy for starting out? Same with a lower cost midi keyboard? The plan was using those with a 2000xl (yes I have a cheap dj mixer) and my records to get me started.

Does this sound like it will all work together?

The reason I wanted a DAW like pro tools is to track out, mix down and put my tracks on a data cd or audio cd. I would like to have a little side gig making beats for local artists in the future.

TBH, there's no "ferrari" pieces of gear so to speak that really stands out from the rest.

Get what you want and enjoy making music.

^ I'm not looking for the ferarri equipment..... I'm really not one of those guys who's wants to buy what everyone else has. I'm just starting out and wanted to gain some knowledge from you guys who have bought crappy stuff you regret buying.
When I walk into the guitar center near me I get no kind of help because everyone when I go can't answer 1 question :(.....

I've been waiting a long time to buy hardware to make music and don't want to waste my money on crappy equipment.

Well, what are your requirements for equipment? Do you know what it is you want but just not sure what name brand you wanna turn to?

I'm asking this because I don't know if you play keys or not, or want to equip your setup for others. I made that mistake of buying sh!t that had no direct purpose to what I needed, but looked good and maybe had a reputable name.

It was a circus for me back then, but I educated myself through reading and subscribing to most of the music mags and got a better picture of what's going on.

I know going in the raw like this is a gamble but you gots to know what level of recording you wanna start with. Maybe grab a used roland a-70, 76 key midi controller since it's got like 4 direct midi outputs right from the board, that's what I swing with.
