well some are already there. i know for a fact i have seen some peeps post on here like origami who's stuff is hot!

it also has alot to do with where you are comin from. someone with no musical experience at all that buys an mpc has alot more to learn than someone who already has years of experience on piano/keyboard/guitar/drums/dj'ing/whatever

paitence and pratice, and being as open minded musicially about ways to do things and what you listen to can help you on the journey.

shadow is more of a master than prefuse, i know for a fact that after he does a main sequence on his mpc, that he **** with everything a lot in protools, there are just little blips and pans and shit that are impossible to get on an mpc

I have to agree w/origami.... whether or not Prefuse uses other means or not, he's a sampling and chopping master...... The way his shit is arranged and layered is just ridick. That guy is sick. Anyone heard his new album?

all of monosyllabik's effects were done with hardware manipulation, not in protools, fyi. you would probably be suprised about some of the blips and panning and levels automation you can do on a 2000. remember you can record your mixer pan and level changes within a sequence. and for a blip all you really need is to take a sample and make a really really really short loop out of it.

im not saying he did that track on the just mpc. but in an interview he pointed out it was all hardware. that song is really interesting as he made the whole song (minus the vocal samples) from one 2 bar loop of a funk song. all those sounds, i have the original track, it is very crazy to hear how much he flipped it! most of that was hardware delay tweaking, etc. i am just saying with some imagination the mpc can be very powerful.

no doubt the mpc is one of the most powerful pieces of gear on the market, however in "one word extinguisher" there are a ton of effects that the mpc simply cannot do ie some granular synthesis, and a ton of effects that i know you can only get from vst effects like pluggo, etc...but most likely scott herron just samples from his pc and does the main sequence on the mpc

Absolutely every track on 'the private press' was sequenced using two MPCs (3000s), a Roland Vari-Phrase sampler was used for sample manipultion, (check it out it's an amazing machine, realtime timestreching!!). Pro Tools was only used to edit the entire tracks, ie. swop eight bars here and there. Shadow is the true purist, mabye some of you should take a leaf from his book. No disrespect
