No sound when I hit the pads

I can hear the sample when the pads are pressed in trim mode but that's it. Any help is appreciated.

I'm willing to be you haven't assigned them. I'm also willing to bet you havent cracked open the manual..

im new to the mpc 1000. it was purchased used for me as a gift and did not come with a manual. as far as the assigning part. i think i am doing it correctly. this is what i am doing step by step. if im missing a step or something please let me know.
1. mode and pad 2
Load from: Memory Card
: Root
File: (sample name)
F1 Load; F2 Save; F3 Utility; F4 USB; F5 Play; F6 Do It
2. press F6
Assign to pad: (pressing pad 1), then assign to pad: A01
F2 Play; F4 Discard; F5 Keep
3. press F5 (keep)
and this is where i get lost.. not sure what to do from here. i push the main button (to test assigning) scroll seq to unused and track to unused. then i push pad 1 no sound coming through... any and all help is appreciated.
