Please help me revive my beloved MPC

Here's the dilly. If anyone can help me, I'd be indebted to you on the real.

I tried to upgrade my OS to 1.14 the other day and since then, my mpc hasn't been working. I guess it didn't store in the rom or something.

When I power up, I am asked for the mpc2xl disk. I stick in the upgrade disk, and all i get ad infinitum is "loading mpc2kxl.bin" and nothing happens.

i can't find the lousy disk that came with my mpc. all i have is the upgrade disk. furthermore, i really don't know what the system is asking for and what disk it'd be on. help! perhaps someone could send me an image of the mpc disk that comes with it? or at least maybe someone can help me navigate through this jam. i'm sure you all know how much it sucks to not be able to use your mpc and not know why! any help would be great. peace

download the os and save it to floppy or zip disk; of course after you dload it you have to unzip file and take the bin file and put it on a floppy or zip
stick the disk in the mpc 2000xl then turn the power on
after the mpc boots up
go to the save screen and save os to rom

exact instructions u should follow;
Load the new OS file into your MPC2000XL.
After you've read the Akai software license agreement carefully, simply insert the new version OS disk into your MPC and press SHIFT + LOAD (3). This puts you in the correct mode to load a file. The floppy disk should contain a single file named MPC2KXL.BIN. This filename should be shown in the ‘File:’ field. If you see the file there press the ’DO IT’ softkey. At this point a warning screen saying “This writes OS to Flash memory...” will be displayed. If you have already saved your files in memory, or you have no important files in memory, press ‘DO IT’. The MPC2000XL will first erase the existing operating system from Flash memory, and then copy the new OS to Flash memory.

Step 6. Press any key to restart your MPC2000XL.
When completed the MPC2000XL will prompt you to press any key to reboot.

Step 7. Confirm that the new OS has properly loaded.
You can confirm that the new operating system has been properly installed by pressing SHIFT + OTHER, then selecting VER. (softkey F3). The screen should display the version of the currently installed operating system. The new version number should be shown on the display and your MPC2000XL should be completely up-to-date and ready for use. Enjoy!

yo, thanks for the help but i don't think that's what the problem is. my mpc wont even load up when i turn it on. all i get is "insert mpc2kxl disk"

this started after an unsuccessful upgrade attempt.

when i put the upgrade disk, it says "loading mpck2kxl.exe" and nothing happens. i'm wondering if there's a such thing as a "boot disk" or something for when the ish hits the fan during upgrade

do what he says with the original OS.

that's the problem. i can't find my original os disk. must have lost it in the move. further, i can't remember what os i last had.

i'm wondering where i can pick up a copy of an older mpc 2kxl os...

How or why u don't seem to understand is beyond me;

Using the same computer that you are writing this message on go to
www.4ament.com then go to where it says mpc os and manuals.

Then download mpc 2000xl os 1.14. When you have downloaded it; unzip the file; there will be a .bin file take that and save the file to a floppy. Take the floppy stick it into the mpc then turn it on; if nothing happens take your mpc to a shop and let them do it.

Try redownloading the 1.14OS again at:

The first one might have been corrupt or something, or try the new one 1.20 if you have a Card reader.

uhmm..... this is verrrrrrrrrry olllddddddd, im sure he is not having this problem anymore

I think I got os 1.07 at the house saved on my computer.
I'll find out tonight and post it up when I get home.

Last time I checked, an .EXE file is different from a .BIN file. Maybe the problem is that your disk has the .EXE and not the .BIN file?

Did you unzip the file on your PC and copy JUST the .BIN file to the disk before you try inserting it, like damixx suggested?

all you should have to do is download the os again and put it on a new disk or something

yall are funny... this is from 2003 peeps, calm down, im sure dude is straight now, or those who come to find this new post will know what to do now
