Mpc - Pc problem

Hey, i just got a used MPC1000 with jjos 4.99

The problem is, when i plug it in my computer (pc, vista).
It doesn't show any sign that it's plugged in, on the MPC screen (don't if this is normal, but it seems weird).
In the My Computer folder, I can see a new drive called "F" or so. But when i dobbleclick it, or even right-click it my computer kinda freezes and i have to reboot.

Anyone have any idea what's wrong?

You need to mount your mpc...from the load / save screen you need to select usb..this will mount your mpc and allow you to access it via your pc

If you've had your PC in standby, sometimes the USB ports get a little quirky on startup and connection to some devices....something to do with power saving settings from what I can remember.....had the same problem with my laptop and MPC. The solution was to reboot the laptop then connect the MPC....All USB ports then worked OK.

...can't believe I'm responding to my own post...

My laptop has now decided to not recognize my MPC 1000, despite having done plenty of trouble free transfers to & from the MPC over the years.

I haven't installed anything / patches or whatever since the last time I connected the MPC.
Frustratingly, on a very few attempts, the USB connection is made and I start transferring files...then after a brief period of time the USB connection fails and I can no longer connect the MPC. I've tried rebooting the laptop, restarting the MPC, reconnecting to each different USB port (there are 4 in total to choose from!), switching off the power management option on the USB ports - to ensure the laptop wasn't auto-switching off to save power....all to no effect.

I'm on JJOS 2 on an MPC1000...I've tried switching back to JJOS1 with no effect. I've also tried USB connection to the memory card and not the internal Hard disk of the MPC, but no change there either...The laptop is running Windows XP sp3. No other USB devices have been affected like this.

I'm guessing it could be one of the following;
- the USB connector on the MPC is past it's best?
- the USB cable (although I've got 2 different ones, each work OK with other external devices without issue)
- the hard disk of the MPC - although, if I can't connect with memory card selected then I guess this isn't the problem
- the laptop or something installed on it? This seems unlikely, as other USB devices all operate OK.

Anyone else having these problems, any hints/tips to try?

...ahhh...this is embarassing....twice in 1 night replying to my post!

I've just found that if I copy my files off my external hard disk onto my PC, then disconnect all USB devices, then connect the MPC I can transfer the files quite happily over from my PC.

I guess the problem I was having was the PC trying to cope with pushing files from one USB device to another. Hasn't been an issue on other USB devices but I suppose there's a first.
