Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000
By Stevethebeats Mon Aug 16, 2010 7:09 am
Hey peeps,

Having some dramas with my new (second hand) MPC2000XL

It's been working fine until recently...

When I switch it on, it reads 'GENERIC IDE CARD' and 'Insert MPC2000XL Disk!'

I haven't tried to update or change anything on it so I'm assuming that I hit the wrong button in the wrong menu and changed something accidentally...

Any suggestions???

I'm new to the world of the MPC so detailed explanations would be especially appreciated (but anything at all would be great!)

Cheers!

what does it do when you dont have any scsi devices connected, no floppies inserted, no cf cards inserted, no zips inserted... and all that?

you should list the following:

-what OS is installed (1.14, or 1.20)

-what do you have installed internally? (cf card, floppy, zip, jaz, HDD)

-what external things (scsi) do you use.. hard drives, cd roms, zips...

that way we know what OS you are on, what connections you are using (scsi, ide, floppy)

the best thing to do is to remove the addons and check to see if the issue occurs, do a little but of subtractive narrowing.

Thanks for getting back to me so soon...

I haven't used any scsi devices yet because I don't have the cable... Without anything connected or inserted, the screen still displays the same message. ('GENERIC IDE CARD' and 'Instert MPC2000XL Disk!')

As far as I know from the guy I bought it off, on ebay, it's an original MCD model 2000XL not an upgraded one. (Hopefully that means something to you)

He also installed an 18MB memory.

-The MPC reads CF disks and also has a drive that reads MS/SD/SM disks.
-SMPTE In and Out.
-Nothing is plugged into the 8 'Assignable Mix Out' or 'Digital' In/Out
-2 MIDI ins and 2 MIDI outs
-No add on effects or anything

What is OS and how do I find out which kind of OS is installed?...

sounds to me like your mpc doesn't have an OS installed somehow.... okay get yourself the OS 1.20 from the akaipro website (look around there to download it) and try reinstalling it. It kind of sounds like there is no eprom in there but that doesn't make much sense at all.
