Envelope mode : normal, finish, repeat!

i thought it would work. sounded very logical to me... but ****. of course it does not work.
is there something in the mpc midi setttings i have to change to fulfill my dreams?

Allright! Here it is:

Triggering an 'Infinite' Loop

April 28, 2003 ~ A frequently asked question: How to trigger an 'infinite' drum loop from a Pad in a RAM-kit?

The ASR-X will not playback a looped sample an infinite number of times - it will only playback the looped sample for the duration of ENV3.

Under Pad/Edit, set WAVE 'Play Mode =LoopForward'
Set ENV3 'Envelope Mode = Finish'
Set ENV3 'Decay Time (4)= 99'
Adjust ENV3 'Release Time (5)= xx' to taste.
It's important to understand, when ENV3 'Envelope Mode = Finish' and the Decay Time (4) interval is complete, the envelope moves immediately to the Release Time (5) stage bypassing the Sustain Level (4) stage altogether.

The preferred method for working with loops of set measures in most hardware and software samplers is to retrigger the loop every few measures. This prevents the inevitable timing drift that will occur when trying to synchronize a 2-4 measure drum loop with other performances.

If you still prefer to use the 'Infinite' loop method, you'll find it useful to create a Key Group assignment so that two or more sounds can cut each other off.

Under Pad/Edit, set MISC 'Key Group Assign= xx ' where xx = 1-16
Make the identical Key Group assignment to one or more Pads in your RAM-kit
Now any of the Pads sharing the same Key Group assignment will mute the others.

Whatsup guys? I got my ASR yesterday and I'm lovin' it so far! I haven't tried anything difficult, just creating basic sequences, saving and loading with floppies (no scsi =/ ) and the like. I am about to go to a record store and pickup a cheap $30 record player so I can sample some records. The TT I have at my fathers house has SPDIF, so I'm not really familiar with where to plug the RCA cords and what not from my TT to the ASR10. If anybody could enlighten me with where I need to plug them in, and what I need to get it to work please help! Sorry for the noobie question. :D

SPDIF is a digital connection, which your ASR-10 most likely does not have, unless it has the DI-10 digital interface installed. (It will LOOK like it has this, as the Digital In and Out jacks are there, but this is misleading. ALL ASR-10's have the jacks on the back panel. But the actual digital interface is pretty rare, and pretty expensive.)

So, you will need to go into the Audio In jacks with either a line-level or mic-level signal. I haven't worked with a turntable in years, but it used to be that all turntables needed to be run through a pre-amp to get the signal up to a workable level. Maybe you can get something by going directly in, and setting the switch to "Mic", but I dunno... You might need to run the turntable into a preamp and then into the ASR.

If you're coming out from a turntable with RCA outputs, you'd want an RCA -> 1/4-inch cable (or even an RCA -> RCA cable with a 1/4-inch adapter). You just need to get the signal into one of the 1/4-inch audio inputs on the ASR.

But if your turntable is going into another device with a preamp, it might have another type of output connector, like a 1/4-inch.

Oops, I just now saw your link. The adapter you show won't really help, as the ASR's inputs are not stero (TRS). In other words, it's gonna ignore one side of the stero anyway, so there's no point in combining them. May as well just take one of the outputs (either L or R) and send it to the ASR.

But the ASR samples in stereo, so you could just as easily do both sides. Of course, that will use twice as much sample memory...

Well I will am going to buy a budget preamp, so I don't know if that changes anything. Not trying to be a pain, but could you recommend something for my needs? I appreciate your help. I am going to be buying Sample Magic soon by the way.

Sorry, but I don't know anything about what's out there in the turntable/preamp world...

But with the operation of the ASR-10, the Sample Magic book should be very helpful! <--(Blatant commercial plug!)

The thing is dope! I have never played drums and what not using a keyboard but I like it alot. I am currently making the music through my Sennheiser 280's so that kinda sucks, but I don't mind too much. Alot of peoples say floppies are bothersome but since i'm organized they are fine with me. So far so good :D

Hey Gub,

I seen you have both a ASR 10 and MPC if you could please let me know:

Just say you have sampled a snare on the MPC and you trim it up. Then you adjust the attack and decay to get the snare sounding tigh. what are the commands/options to adjust the Attack and Decay on the Asr 10 ?.

Thanks
