MPC3000 Record Inputs Distorting

When I'm sampling in sounds through the record inputs of my 3K I'm getting a lot of distortion. The record level meter is not clipping. It's still distorting when I play the sound in at low levels. Any ideas whats up here?

...ok I switched the gain input switch on the back to 'low'. Seems to be alright now.
