I just got the 3000 today. The backlight is not that bad at all. I think I can get away with a lamp overhead. This thing is a monster. I was damn near speechless when I pulled it out of the box (I have the le). I can't even look at my xl the same anymore (I've been on the xl since 2002). I had no idea this thing was so beautiful. LOL

Photos never do it justice unless they are real close up.
The number of people who say the LE is ugly, who have only ever seen photos........
Most people don't realise it has musical stave and notes on it.

btw. eventualy you will want the backlight. Bite the bullet :D

Yeah, I never saw the detail of the machine in pics. And you don't get a feel for how solid and sturdy it is until you start to bang on the pads. I have to get used to how hot the machine gets. Thats what you have to deal with in having an older machine. I could leave the XL on for days (I left it on for a week one time). I get scared to leave the 3000 on for more than an hour LOL. But you are right about the backlight. I met somebody who will install it for cheap.

did you have a time to install the new backlight yet?

i am too going to order the same "no soldering required" backlight for my MPC3000LE....

I ordered the same one awhile back and haven't had time to install it yet...curious to see how it goes- keep us posted. The seller, Matt is a stand up guy...very helpful and even had an extra data wheel on hand he sold for cheap :D

Pilchard- so you're the second owner? Did BG come with your 3000 or did you add him later?

If anyone else has a spare data wheel available, could they let me know. I'm looking for one.

Also, I've installed one of these solderless backlights in my mpc 3000. Worked a treat.

cheers :) Let me see what I can do. You won't be dissapointed if you got one and you really didn't want to do any soldering.

I had BG installed by Forat. He pops up from time to time. Scary innit!

PS. now that BG has sold his MPCs and gone over to the darkside, does that mean we have seen the last of his everpresent ugly mug from here??

Man...I thought people paid Forat to take him OUT, not install him
